CBSE is not going to conduct an external examination for class 10 students from March 2013 onwards. The students studying in class 10 in the academic session 2012-13 will have to sit in school based internal examination only.
The continuous and comprehensive evaluation (CCE) was introduced by the CBSE last year, which made the board examinations optional. This was a move to unburden students from board exam pressure. It also had an option for students to choose among school based programme or board exams. However, from 2012-13, the CBSE has decided to completely replace board exams with school based exams by making it compulsory for all.

Astonishingly, very few students opted for the school-based examinations conducted in March 2011. More than 90% students in Andhra Pradesh opted for Board exams. At the national level as well, the response was very poor. Around 6 lakh students opted for Board exams out of a total of 9 lakh.
The reason behind this poor response was the apprehensions among parents and students regarding the credibility of school exams compared to those conducted by CBSE. However, this year with about 40% students in Andhra opting for school-based exams, the response has been definitely better.
A senior CBSE official said that they will analyze the result of both school-based and board exams for the year 2012 and post the same on their website. This will help students, parents and school managements to observe the difference and the pass percentages between these exams. He further mentioned that there was not much difference in the pass percentages, last year too.
CBSE will randomly verify evaluated answer sheets, to ensure that evaluation has been fair. And it has also decided to supply question papers for school-based exams and only the evaluation part will be done at school-level.

  1. This decision of elemination of board exam for class x 2013 is not upto the mark. Scool conducted exams are totally based on partiality. The student who will read to the class teacher will get more marks and who doesn,t take tution from the class teacher will get less mark. I have practical example of the above instance. I can prove it. It is better to make board compulsory for all candidates of 2013. I”m astudent. I”m not satisfied with the decision.

  2. The  tenth board exams cannot be eliminated as it is one of the most important exams we write and 25% of it counts in every competitive exam we write….

  3. this decision is too rude …….CBSE board exams are much better because in school examination there are so many malpractices going on.

  4. What will happen to our ability or opening for admissions in non-CBSE colleges for grade 11 as well as to other CBSE schools

  5. This decision of to eliminate board exam is very bad.. I am not satisfied from this decision. School conducted exams are totally based on partiality.

  7. Recently i have given my matriculation examination and waiting for the result. So i would like to ask that what is the difference between school conducted board exam and external board exam, which is more benificial and how?

  9. i wanted to know.even if i write school based exam shall i move to any other school for +1 class

  10. Best Thing Done by CBSE students can get more benifit of this.It is Better to make School Based Compulsory

  11. this is not true the cbse chairman mr.vineet joshi said that from 2013 2014 the school board will be made mandatory this year external boards going to be held.

  12. i am totally agreed with the elimination of board exams as board exams creates tensions on students, anxieties and so on.since i will give the 10 th exams in 2013 i m really very happy with this decision.

  13. This is really great. Keep it up the good going. Really very great blog this has given me all the information that i needed, good for visiting daily it will increase our knowledge. Best luck for future.

  14. students who are seeking admission to navodaya vidyalayas will be sad if board exams are cancelled,

  15. I am not satisfied with the elimination of board exams. If the exams for std10 will cunducted by schools, then students will not pay attention towards their studies thinjimg of malpractices like cheating, bribing the teachers etc,so please don’t take such decisions…

  16. i am not satisfied with this decision of CBSE.i don’t know why this type of decision is taken by CBSE. please answer this question [What will happen to our ability or opening for admissions in non-CBSE colleges for grade 11 as well as to other CBSE schools]

  17. Most students including me favour Board exams for classX .This decision is really going to be bad for students. The teacher’s &student’s seriousness will be badly affected. It will deteriorate student’s performance in HS classes as well. CBSE passed students will have to struggle to get admitted to colleges.CBSE has to reconsider the decision.

  18. it’s we students who have made SOME teachers partial. we fear that this teacher will not give us marks so we go to their tuition classes. It only encourages such teachers…….. if no one goes to their tuition then partiality will automatically be eliminated…

  19. THIS rule is not good as the main thing is that we will appear for the board exams directly in class twelth, which will be our final year in the school. students who have been appeared for the boards in class x now have the idea of the board exams . they can give the twelth board confidently. but we will not get this opportunity.
our tenth board marks will help us to analyse that how much hardworking we have to do for the board in class xii

  20. i think…dis is a very gud decision…
theres no diffrnce between the two exams…
rather.., schul board has reduced pressure…
this sesion i hv given school board..nd i could say…it was amazing…i ws nt having ny tnsn….nd m sure dat i wl achieve my goals….

  21. i know its full of partiality some skools even does malpractices so that their skool 10 batch can achive 100 percent i am totally against it i hope cbse folkes make right decisions

  22.  it is vry gud decision taken it is in favour of students as  my parents trys to force my for opting board rather than opting school exams but i always wanted it thnks !!!!!  cbse

  23. I AM NOT SATISFIED WITH CBSC DECISION.IF MY CHILED WANT ADMISSION UNDER THE BOMBAY UNIVERSITY COLLEGE HE WILL BE SUFFER DUE TO SCHOOL BASED EXAMINATION.BOARD EXAMINATION IS VALUABLE THAN SCHOOL BASE EXAM.THOSE STUDENT APPEARED SCHOOL BASE EXAM THEY WILL STUCK IN XII BOARD. I AM TOTALLY AGREE WITH MR.ANAND SHINGWEKAR COMMENTS THAT SCHOOL EXAM WILL BE MORE PARTIAL THOSE WHO WILL JOIN TUITION WITH CONCERN TEACHER.

  24. sir, I am from Sikkim . Here every school conduct board exam. Does this new rule apply for us. our teachers ha ve no clear annswer. We are confused . Kindly help.

  25. arey bahut sahi …..ek no………sahi hai boss…………. bilkul sahi system hai re……maja aa gaya.

  26. board examination should be there . i am satisfy with your dicisson because  in  school board exam teachers create a partiality among the students in giving marks

  27. students who are not like admission in navodaya vidyalayas will be feel sad if external board exam are cancelled

  28. Where from, the author of this blog, got this news about CBSE closing down the board exams from 2013. Because there is no such circular/announcement on CBSE’s official website till date.

  29. I am not really satisfied to cancel board exam it decreases the interest towards education for briliant students.

  30. I M AGREE WITH ANAND SHINGWEKAR VIEW. IT APPEARS THAT THE DECISION TAKERS HAVE CLEARED THE GROUND FOR BACKDOOR ENTRY TO THE NON ELIGIBLE STUDENTS BY WAY OF EVALUATION AT THE SCHOOL LEVEL WHERE PARTIALITY CANT BE OVERRULED AND CAN BE  ON THE BASIS OF GROUPS/ CASTES AND OTHER FACTORS AS STATED BY HIM BEING THE IDENTITY OF STUDENTS KNOWN TO THE TEACHERS.WHEREAS IN THE BOARD SYSTEM STUDENTS WERE KNOWN WITH THEIR ROLE NUMBERS ONLY AS THEY WERE NOT SUPPOSE TO WRITE EVEN THEIR NAME ON THE ANSWER SHEET AND COULD NOT INFLUENCE THE TEACHERS  MIND.FURTHER BY PUTTING THIS NEW CCE SYSTEM THE STUDENTS SEEMS TO BE BROUGHT  UNDER CONTINUOUS TREMENDOUS PRESSURE IN THE WHOLE YEAR AS COMPARE TO THE PREVIOUS ONE WHERE THE SO CALLED PRESSURE USED TO BE FOR A LIMITED PERIOD.THEREFORE THE NEW SYSTEM IS NOT EASING THE THE PRESSURE AS CLAIMED BY THE FRAMERS AND REQUIRED URGENT REVIEW

  31. there must be choice as if one want to give bord xam he/she couldnt . there must be voting for this. i am fully against it.

  32. its very bad, there should be board exam,
this is the worst decision that India govt has taken,
there should be a change in the govt.
how then students will sit in for other competitive exams

  33. India is a very late follower. The UK abolished the O’ Levels in 1983 when exams were of a very high level and 100% exam only. Then came in the GCSE’s which were partly school assessed and partly board exams. Now from 2013 they are moving back to 100% board examinations because they have realised the benefits of this and the shortcomings of school assessments. It not only brings down the level of intelligence of children, children to not want to and are not required to reach their full potential, complacency falls in, in the part of the teachers and students and obviously in a country such as India where corruption prevails, there could well be a possibility of favours and malpractices based on power of the teachers in terms of assessments and marking of the exams.
When a country like the UK have learnt of the damaging effects of such changes to education, why does India want to bring down the level of CBSE board examinations which currently enjoys a high regard and reputation in foreign countries for its rigorous and quality education? Why can’t it learn from the mistakes of the UK? India is doing now what the UK did to their education system in 1983! Why does it deliberately want to drop a hammer on its toes?  India did not do its homework properly in researching such a policy which could be detrimental to how foreign administrators and educational institutes perceive the CBSE.
Talking about eliminating stress for 10th standard kids; this system is more stressful and what about all these years, kids have successfully faced the stress. For the sake of a handful of kids who couldn’t handle the pressure why change the whole system, wasn’t it better to identify such kids and offer them an alternative yet equivalent qualification?; And what about the kids across the globe, are they more able, more resilient that they have learnt how to tackle the pressure at age 16. I seriously feel you cannot shelter, wrap up kids in cotton wool at the age of 16 and PROTECT them from EXAMS!!
It is obvious in years to come when the pitfalls, drawbacks and shortcomings become apparent to the administrators of this policy that India will bring back the 100% board examinations with no interference from schools. This is for sure!!

  34.  India is going to fall down, and applying the compulsion of school based exam. On applying it, the quality of the talented students become down but sure sure, he will get good marks not a good knowledge.

  35. i think that students could get more marks if there is no board exams so this is great opportunity for the students

  36. is there a choice regarding board exams in 2013.i think only those who want to move out of cbse can sit in board conducted, otherwise it is compulsory to take school conducted SA2 for class 10

  37. if due to some reasons i take board exam but afterthat i want to continue with cbse board….???????? then it is possible after taking board exams i can continue with it……….

  38. IT’s a not good decision by the board,it should upto the student,no one should disallow them to sit in cbse schools after giving board based exams…..still thinKKKKKKKK

  39. if due to some reasons i take board exam but afterthat i want to continue with cbse board….???????? then it is possible after taking board exams i can continue with it……….

  40. yes it is a best .but take cair that in may school the school leave the student to cheet in the exam . and also they help the student to write the correct exam . so i think that , all the cbse afflated school and became a broker of the student and take money and pass or correct the paper if the student has don any mistack. then they help the student.

  41. the school based examination is a good way of examination as it will not pressurize the students, but the corrected papers must be re -checked by the principal or senior teachers . there should be a strict rule in which the teachers should not be taking any tuition for the student of their school.
