Answer: His grade is A2.

Two different grades for same marks !!
Are you mad !!!
Relax !!! my dear. Just read this article to understand CBSE new grading system 2018 for class 10 and class 12.
CBSE New Grading system 2018
CBSE discontinued the CCE system in 2018 so as the old grading system have been replaced. Till last year, you were getting grades in nine point scale as A1, A2, B1, B2, C1, C2, D, E1, E2. The grade points were in the interval of 10 marks. Hence student getting 91-100 marks were A1 graders and 81-90 were A2 graders and so on.
But in new system of evaluation (Year End Exams), the grading system is completely changed. Now you are not getting grades as per the marks but you are getting grades for comparative performance of all the students appeared in exam.
CCE grading Vs YEE grading
Lets elaborate the same for you. The new Year End Exam (YEE) grading and old CCE grade comparison table is here.
Old CCE Grading system 2017 | New YEE Grading System 2018 |
---|---|
91-100 = A1 | Top 1/8 of passed students = A1 |
81-90 = A2 | Next 1/8 of passed students = A2 |
71-80 = B1Next | Next 1/8 of passed students = B1 |
61-70 = B2 | Next 1/8 of passed students = B2 |
51-60 = C1 | Next 1/8 of passed students = C1 |
41-50 = C2 | Next 1/8 of passed students = C2 |
33-40 = D | Next 1/8 of passed students = D1 |
21-32 = E1 | Next 1/8 of passed students = D2 |
0-20 = E2 | Failed students = E |
- Minor variations in proportion of candidates to adjust ties will be made.
- In case of a tie, all the students getting the same score, will get the same grade. If the number of students at a score point need to be divided into two segments, the smaller segment will go with the larger.
- Method of grading will be used in subjects where the number of candidates who have passed is more than 500.
- In respect of subjects where total number of candidates passing in a subject is less than 500, the grading would be adopted on the pattern of grading and distribution in other similar subjects.
Comparative Performance based Grading system
Comparative performance based grading system is already being used in CBSE class 12 for years. The same was part of CBSE class 10 report card before implementation of CCE system in 2010. CBSE has just re-implemented it this year. Let’s understand it with an example. Suppose in case of Maths, top 1/8 students got 90% or above marks and in case of Hindi top 1/8 students got 85% or above marks. Now in this case students getting 85% marks in Hindi will get A1 but they will not get A1 even if they get 89% in Maths.
