Baking soda is nothing but sodium bicarbonate, which can be denoted by the chemical formula NaHCO3. Baking soda is basically a salt that comprises a sodium cation which can be represented as Na+ and a bicarbonate anion which can be represented as HCO3–.
Baking soda is a white, crystalline solid that has a salty taste. It is quite useful in baking as a leavening agent – a substance that causes foaming, leading to the softening of the mixture. It is also referred to as sodium hydrogen carbonate.

A reaction in which one reactant undergoes oxidation whereas the other gets reduced during the course of reaction are termed as oxidation-reduction reactions or redox reactions. Oxidation refers to the loss of electrons or increase in oxidation state by a molecule, atom, or ion. Reduction refers to the gain of electrons or decrease in oxidation state by a molecule, atom, or ion.
Consider the following redox reaction.
- Burning sugars, such as glucose (C6H12O6) and the fatty acids in the fats we eat.
|
C6H12O6(aq) + 6 O2(g) --> 6 CO2(g) + 6 H2O(l) |
- Reaction of zinc oxide and carbon.
ZnO + C --> Zn + CO
In this reaction carbon is oxidised to CO and ZnO is reduced to Zn.

Thermite is a pyrotechnic composition of aluminium powder and a metal oxide. It produces an aluminothermic reaction known as a thermite reaction.
The reaction of iron (III) oxide and aluminum can be represented by the equation:
Fe2O3 (s) + 2 Al (s) → Al2O3 (s) + 2 Fe (s)
This reaction is known as the “thermite” process, which has been used industrially for welding that is the preparation of metals from their oxides, and the production of incendiary devices. The process is initiated by heat, but then becomes self-sustaining.

The two lungs and their pleural sacs are situated in the thoracic cavity . The pleura is a thin, glistening, slippery serous membrane, inflammation of which is called pleurisy. The pleura lines the thoracic wall and diaphragm, where it is known as the parietal pleura. It is reflected onto the lung, where it is called the visceral pleura.
So, option lungs is correct answer.

- During heavy exercise, the demand for energy is high but the supply of oxygen to produce energy is limited. Therefore, anaerobic respiration takes places in the muscles cells to fulfil the demand for energy. This anaerobic breakdown of glucose leads to the formation of lactic acid in muscles. The accumulation of lactic acid in muscles leads to muscle cramps.
- HenceDuring heavy exercise, we get cramps in the legs due to the accumulation of Lactic acid.
- So, the correct answer is 'Lactic acid'.

For every quadratic equation, there can be one or more than one solution. These are called the roots of the quadratic equation.
For a quadratic equation ax2+bx+c = 0,
the sum of its roots = –b/a and the product of its roots = c/a.

First enzyme that digests food in alimentary canal is amylase. Digestion of food starts in the mouth itself when salivary amylase hydrolyzes the starch in the ingested food particle. It is present in mouth and is secreted by salivary glands. It acts on starch.
