• Seafloor spreading is a process that occurs at mid-ocean ridges, where new oceanic crust is formed through volcanic activity and then gradually moves away from the ridge.

• Seafloor spreading helps explain continental drift in the theory of plate tectonics.

• This theory was proposed by Hess in 1961. He argued that constant eruptions at the crest of oceanic ridges cause the rupture of the oceanic crust and the new lava wedges into it, pushing the oceanic crust on either side. Thus, the ocean floor spreads.

• The younger age of the oceanic crust as well as the fact that the spreading of one ocean does not cause the shrinking of the other, made Hess think about the consumption of the oceanic crust.

• He further maintained that the ocean floor that gets pushed due to volcanic eruptions at the crest, sinks down at the oceanic trenches and gets consumed.

Gaurav Seth 5 years, 3 months ago (2898529)

Instant messengers are programs that you let chat in real time with other Web users. Example of instant messengers include those produced by MSN, AOL and Yahoo. Step 1 Run several messenger programs whose source is freely available. (These are called "open source" programs.) Examples of open source messengers include Pandion, Valhalla Chat and PlanetAMessenger. Step 2 Write -- for the messenger that you feel is ideal -- detailed notes describing what features of the program you'd like to customize. For example, you may write "The emoticon buttons are cool, but should be on the main screen, not buried under a menu." Step 3 Click the link to download the messenger program's source code and documentation describing how to compile the program. This link will be on the same site as the one with the link to the executable program. Step 4 Read thoroughly the downloaded documentation, taking special note of the language the program was developed with (such as Java or C). Step 5 Install a platform for compiling and debugging programs in the language you took note of in the previous step. Oracle provides a Java development platform on their Java subdomain. Open Watcom, among others, makes a free platform for developing applications in C. Step 6 Load the messenger program's source files, one by one, into a text editor like Notepad. Print each file from the text editor. Step 7 Type, into a new set of source files made with your text editor, the messenger program's source code. This task makes you read step 6's printed source with an intense concentration that will begin revealing how the program works. Step 8 Read your development platform's documentation for compiling programs, then compile the source type typed in the previous step. If the messenger doesn't work as you expected, trace through or debug the program, as directed by your development platform's docs. Step 9 Select, in Windows Explorer, the messenger source files and press "Delete." Step 10 Retype each source file as you did in step 7. In this typing session, use your memory as the primary resource, not the printed source code. Use the printouts only when you forget a statement. Repeat this step until you can type the messenger program from memory. Typing from memory rather than a printout will complete your understanding of the messenger program, which you began to build in step 7. This understanding provides enough skill to modify and personalize the messenger. Step 11 Edit, with your text editor, existing source code and write new source as needed to effect the program changes you described in step 2. Recompile and debug the program to produce your completed instant messenger.

The decrease in the quantity of ozone in the upper layer of the atmosphere is called depletion of ozone. This is also known as the ozone hole. Due to this hole, ultraviolet rays of the Sun can reach the Earth and cause diseases such as skin cancer.

Pollutants such as oxides of nitrogen, chlorine free radicals etc. are produced in the atmosphere. Molecules of ozone react with these pollutants and are destroyed. This causes depletion of the ozone layer.

Ustad Bismillah Khan brought the shehnai to the centre of the classical music stage through his hard work and tireless practice. Born to a family of renowned musicians and having been trained by his uncle, Ali Bux, Ustad Bismillah Khan surpassed all of them as he honed his art through hours of practice and innovation. His simplicity and humility were evident in the way he conducted himself, he could not be comfortable in the artificiality and glamour of celluloid world and so eventually dissociated himself from the world of film music. He was deeply in love with his country, especially with Benaras and Dumraon: this made him give up the opportunity of opening a music school in USA. He was a true ambassador of India and its rich heritage.

Internal Trade :
Internal trade is done within the geographical boundaries of a country. As an example, trade done amongst the traders of Delhi, Mumbai, Chennai, Kanpur and Amritsar etc. is called Internal Trade.

Types of Internal Trade :

(i) Wholesale Trade : It involves purchase and sale of goods in wholesale quantities. Large quantities of goods purchased from manufacturer are sold in small quantities to various retailers.

(ii) Retail : It involves the sale of goods to consumers by the retailers. A retailer buys the goods from a wholesaler and sells them to customers in their required quantities. It is a link between a wholesaler and consumer. Different types of goods are available at a retailer shop so that a customer could buy the goods of his own choice.

Internal trade can also be classified as : (a) Local Trade, (b) State Trade, (c) Inter-State Trade.

External Trade :
Whenever trade occurs between two countries, it is known as external trade. In foreign trade, both buyer and seller live in different countries. If Reliance Ltd. sells Polyester Yarn to a French firm or L&T Ltd. purchases a heavy machine from a Swiss firm, these would classified as external trade.

Types of External Trade :

1. Import Trade : When the trader of one country buys the goods from foreign countries, it is known as import trade for the trader who buys the goods.

2. Export Trade : When the trader of a country sells goods to a foreign country, it is known as export trade for the trade who sells the goods e.g., if a tea firm of Darjeeling sells tea to U.K., it is export trade.

3. Entrepot Trade : The goods imported from one country for export to another country, is known as entrepot trade. It is also known as Re-export. It is done when a country does not have her own seaport or not having good political relations with other countries or no direct access to those countries from where goods are to be imported.

Sometimes, for certain ecological investigations, there is no need to the absolute population densities. Relative densities serve the  purpose equally well. In this case, population size is indirectly estimated without actually counting them. For example, the number of fishes caught per trap is good enough measure of its total population density in the lake. The tiger census in our National park and tiger reserves is often based on pug marks (animal's ft print ) and fecal pellets.

- They used to hear scurrying sounds from the false ceiling in the middle of the night.

- Fruits kept at the dining table would be bitten into, bread slices would be nibbled at and flower pots would be toppled!

- The floor around the dining table would show strange looking, muddy footprints in the morning.

- Mrs Raghav and the children started freaking out, thinking there was a ghost in their new house!

- But, the youngest child, Raj, knew there was no such thing as ghosts.

- He decided to prove his family memebers wrong.

- Without telling anyoe of them, he kept awake one night.

- He hid behind the sofa and waited patiently, munching on peanuts and raisins.

- Around midnight, he heard shuffling sounds from the chimney in the drawing room.

- One by one, a family of four racoons slithered down the chimney into the house, slinked to the dining table and had a feast of fruits and bread.

- Raj was bemused by their intelligence; quietly, he took their picture to show the 'ghosts' to his family!

When plenty of water is available in the soil, plants will absorb water through its roots. This water will be used by the plant or released through transpiration by open stomata in the leaves. Photosynthesis will also occur normally with CO2 and oxygen being absorbed and released through the open stomata.
