The disadvantages of MNCs are :

(i) Small manufacturers like—batteries, capacitors, plastic toys, tyres, dairy products and vegetable oil were victims of competition.

(ii) Closing down of small units rendered many workers jobless.

(iii) Most employers prefer to employ workers ‘flexibly’, this means that workers jobs are no longer secure. Small Indian companies were hard hit because of Government’s changed policies such as allowing import of the goods which were previously not allowed.

Satire is so prevalent in pop culture that most of us are already very familiar with it, even if we don’t always realize it. Satire can be part of any work of culture, art or entertainment. It is an often-humorous way of poking fun at the powers that be. Sometimes, it is created with the goal to drive social change. Satire has a long history and it is as relevant today as it was in ancient Rome David Mamet Teaches Dramatic Writing The Pulitzer Prize winner teaches you everything he's learned across 26 video lessons on dramatic writing. Satire is both a genre and a literary device that holds human nature up to criticism and scorn. It is often political in focus but does not have to be. In literature, writers use irony, humor, and exaggeration to create successful satire. The word satire traces back to the Latin word “satur,” meaning “well-fed,” and was used in the phrase “lanx satura,” meaning “a dish full of many kinds of fruit.” Though these words seem far removed from the definition of satire, they were used by ancient Roman critics and writers to refer to what we know as satire today, including what is commonly considered the literary origin of satire: Aristophanes’s Old Comedy. The word “satire” made its way into the English language in the sixteenth century. In 411 BC, the ancient Greek poet Aristophanes wrote Lysistrata. In this satirical comedy, the protagonist Lysistrata convinces women to withhold *** from men in an effort to convince them to end the Peloponnesian War. In writing this wildly popular comedy, which is still read and studied in schools, Aristophanes was satirizing the Peloponnesian War and also poking fun at the differences between men and women. The story of Lysistrata has been retold and reinterpreted countless times over the years, recently in the 2015 Satire in literature is a type of social commentary. Satire remains a powerful tool in contemporary culture. Film and television, in particular, have been important vehicles for satire over the past several decades. There are three main types of satire, each serving a different role. Horatian. Horatian satire is comic and offers light social commentary. It is meant to poke fun at a person or situation in an entertaining way. Gulliver’s Travels, written in the eighteenth century by Jonathan Swift, is an example of Horatian satire in literature. The work is a spoof of the kind of travelogues that were common at that time. Through his invented narrator, Gulliver, Swift takes aim at travel writers, the English government, and human nature itself. Late-night television show The Colbert Report, in which Stephen Colbert inhabited the character of a conservative pundit for many years, offers a funny but deep satire of American politics. The Onion is a popular satirical online news site that embodies Horatian satire. Juvenalian. Juvenalian satire is dark, rather than comedic. It is meant to speak truth to power. George Orwell’s famous 1945 novel Animal Farm is a good example of Juvenalian satire. The novel’s intended target is communism and Stalin-era Soviet Union. Animal Farm is also an allegorical satire: it can be read as a simple tale of farm animals, but it has a deeper political meaning. A modern-day example is the television show South Park, which juxtaposes biting satire with juvenile humor. The show has tackled all sorts of hot-button targets, including abortion, the Pope, Hollywood, and criminal justice. Menippean. Menippean satire casts moral judgment on a particular belief, such as homophobia or racism. It can be comic and light, much like Horatian satire—although it can also be as stinging as Juvenalian satire. Lewis Carroll’s Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland is one of the best examples of Menippean satire in literature is. The novel pokes fun at upper-class intellectualism but does it with a distinct sense of humor. The ridicule is there, but it is good-natured in spirit. A modern-day example is Saturday Night Live, which has carried a long tradition of poking fun at elected officials ever since Chevy Chase’s 1975 impersonation of Gerald Ford. Political cartoons have been a major vehicle for satire ever since they originated in eighteenth-century England. Today, political satire continues to be relevant in different forms. Political cartoons. These can appear both in print and online. A common structure for a political cartoon is to have one large panel, with a drawing that over-exaggerates the physical features of an elected official, or any newsworthy figure and depicts a situation that makes a cutting comment about the political players of the day. Political stunts. Some comedians have gone above and beyond satirical jokes on TV to enact more elaborate stunts as acts of political satire. In his 2018 television show Who Is America? comedian Sacha Baron Cohen disguised himself while interviewing several political figures with the aim of catching politicians off-guard in moments of silliness and hypocrisy. When choosing a topic to satirize, start by looking at recent political events, and think of news stories that have garnered a lot of attention and debate. Decide where you stand: make sure you have a strong opinion about the issue you want to satirize. Satirical writing needs to come from a very clear point of view so that you can make a case to your audience. When you’re ready to write, try and use some of the following techniques to create a good piece of satirical writing: Irony. Irony is a critical tool in satire because it highlights the distance between the way people talk about a situation and the reality of the situation. For example, use words that say the opposite of what you mean. Learn more about irony in our complete guide here. Hyperbole. Similarly, over-exaggerating one feature or characteristic of your satirical target can draw readers’ attention to what you want to convey. Understatement. Pick one aspect of your subject to understate for comic effect—a social dynamic, characteristic, or political situation. Allegory. An allegory is a story that can be read in two ways: with a literal meaning on the surface, and a hidden meaning underneath that comments on a political or social situation. Learn more about allegory in our complete guide here.

Dr Herriot found out quite early what was the real problem with Tricki. He knew that Tricki’s only weakness was his greed for food. He, therefore, wanted Mrs Pumphrey to keep Tricki on a strict diet and give him plenty of exercises. Dr Herriot instructed her that the dog be hospitalised under his observation for a fortnight. At the surgery, Tricki looked down at the noisy dogs with dull eyes. He lay motionless on the carpet. The other dogs ignored him as an uninteresting object. A bed was made in a warm loose box next to the other dogs. For two days, Dr Herriot kept an eye on him. He gave him no food but plenty of water. He gave no medical treatment to Tricki.

Dr Herriot’s practical treatment worked. First, Tricki started taking an interest in his surroundings. His appetite returned. He started running along with the other dogs in the garden joining in their friendly barkings. Then, Tricki’s stay at the surgery became quite enjoyable. His indulgent mistress gave him fresh eggs, wine and brandy. Even Dr Herriot was tempted to keep Tricki as a permanent guest. However, Tricki’s recovery was quite rapid and he was handed over to his mistress. The grateful Mrs Pumphrey thanked Dr Herriot and called his feat “a triumph of surgery

He was the "face" of the "anti apartheid system" after being jailed for nearly "3 decades" and after being released in 1990, he became the "first black president" in "1994". He spoke about freeing the country from the "oppressive apartheid system", from bondage, poverty, hunger, discrimination and deprivation. Nelson Mandela spoke about two twin obligation for any citizen one on a personal level that includes his own obligations towards his family, children, parents and striving for personal growth. We started keeping my family traditions of canning alive last summer. My loved ones has discontinued for years and there is nothing better than opening up something I have discontinued on my own and thinking of those who distributed this traditions with me. Traditions are very essential to keep going in families around the world. Traditions are very broad nearly anything from what people do about holidays to cooking. My loved ones tradition is important to me. I knew last year that if I didn’t learn several of my family’s secret recipes while my own grandmother and mom continue to be with us than there would be a chance that my loved ones would never be able to taste the wonderful flavors my family has put together over the years and my children has seemed so toward the taste that we get grown to love. Ahead of I begin canning, I must gather every one of the materials that I need to get started out. The first step may be the selection of the tomatoes. My spouse and i pick every one of my tomato plants from my very own garden they may be so much greater than anything from the grocery store. Last year I applied better son tomatoes and roma tomato plants. The roma tomatoes great to use since they have fewer seeds, wider, meatier wall surfaces and less drinking water. And that means thicker marinade in much less cooking time! Also, I don’t want soft, bruised or perhaps rotten tomatoes. Next We remove the tomato skins this is very important. Nothing worse than consuming spaghetti and having to munch on a piece of skin left out. Here’s a trick my personal grandma educated me: put the tomatoes, a number of at a time within a large pot of boiling water for at most 1 day. Then I plunge them into a waiting bowl of ice normal water. This makes the skins go right off with the tomatoes. If the skins happen to be left upon then they turn into tough and chewy in the sauce, not so pleasant. I must eliminate the seeds and water. After peeling the skins off of the tomatoes, My spouse and i cut the tomatoes in half. I remove the seeds and excess normal water. I call it up the squeeze of the seed. It is just like it sounds: clean hands in that case squeeze each tomato and i also use my personal thumb or possibly a spoon to scoop and shake away most of the seeds. I do leave some of the seed products because that is my inclination. I throw the squeezed tomatoes in a colander or drainer while I work on different ones. By money the water off now, My spouse and i end up with a thicker other sauce in less cooking. The next step I need to do is to become the lids and containers sanitized. The dishwasher is decent for the jars, particularly if it has a sanitize cycle. My spouse and i get that going although I’m planning everything else, and so it’s made by the time I’m ready to fill the containers. While the cisterns and covers are staying sanitized We begin obtaining that other sauce heading. I consider my onions, garlic, basil, oregano, gulf leaves, green peppers, ” lemon ” juice, sodium, pepper, and my burgundy and place all in the pot first. When i get the onions and pepper a little young I put all the tomato vegetables and bring to a simmer. Cook throughout the tomatoes until the sauce can be my ideal thickness. I usually let my own sauce make for about two hours. The very last step My spouse and i call canning time. Although my sauce is simmering I acquire my water bath garnir ready. We go ahead and go through the water up and get it boiling. I actually start a little pot of water cooking to put the lids in so that the lids can sterilize and helps the lids seal. When the spices is prepared I place the jar direct on the container and I complete them to within just? inch of the top make the cover and palm ‘tighten the ring in. I put the jars in the water bathtub and cook for about 20mins. I then make use of the jar grabber and move the cisterns out one-by-one and let all of them cool draft-free place. When the jars will be cool, I actually check that they may be sealed validating that the top has been sucked down. We press straight down in the middle gently with my ring finger. If it arises and straight down then it is usually not closed. If it don’t seal than I just replace the top and do the canning time again. Now that all the actions are full, I listen to all the small pings occurring telling me that my hard work offers paid off. I am glad which i have learned the family custom of canning. My granny has become older and doesn’t can easily anymore. Away of all my family it is just my friend, Aunt Leslie, and myself left undertaking the canning. It was a good reward to my sole a few weeks ago after i had my own grandmother more than for dinner. I had formed canned a lot of beets and decided that was the day to open them. When my own grandmother attempted them the girl said, These taste much like mine. To hear her say that supposed so much in my opinion. I couldn’t image not having the taste of what I had in the past because they don’t that in the grocery store. This is why My spouse and i am keeping my family custom going and teaching my own girls. We never understand when each of our love ones are not going to be below anymore. Easily can’t possess my family with me I by least wish to be able to remember them by simply creating the actual have believed me. In the event people have a thing in their friends and family that is done by others and would not desire to miss it after that person is fully gone than learn how that special someone would it. I did that’s why I will always have that special connection with canning and my family.

The hippopotamus (/ˌhɪpəˈpɒtəməs/ HIP-ə-POT-ə-məs;[3] Hippopotamus amphibius), also called the hippo, common hippopotamus or river hippopotamus, is a large, mostly herbivorous, semiaquatic mammal and ungulate native to sub-Saharan Africa. It is one of only two extant species in the family Hippopotamidae, the other being the pygmy hippopotamus (Choeropsis liberiensis or Hexaprotodon liberiensis). The name comes from the ancient Greek for "river horse" (ἱπποπόταμος). After the elephant and rhinoceros, both of which are found in Africa, the hippopotamus is the third-largest type of land mammal and the heaviest extant artiodactyl (in the traditional, non-cladistic sense of the term, not including cetaceans). Despite their physical resemblance to pigs and other terrestrial even-toed ungulates, the closest living relatives of the Hippopotamidae are cetaceans (whales, dolphins, porpoises, etc.), from which they diverged about 55 million years ago. Kingdom: Animalia Phylum: Chordata Class: Mammalia Order: Artiodactyla Family: Hippopotamidae Genus: Hippopotamus Species: H. amphibius Hippos are recognisable by their barrel-shaped torsos, wide-opening mouths revealing large canine tusks, nearly hairless bodies, columnar legs and large size; adults average 1,500 kg (3,310 lb) for males and 1,300 kg (2,870 lb) for females. Despite its stocky shape and short legs, it is capable of running 30 km/h (19 mph) over short distances. Hippos inhabit rivers, lakes, and mangrove swamps, where territorial males preside over a stretch of river and groups of five to thirty females and young hippos. During the day, they remain cool by staying in the water or mud; reproduction and childbirth both occur in water. They emerge at dusk to graze on grasses. While hippos rest near each other in the water, grazing is a solitary activity and hippos are not territorial on land. The hippo is among the most dangerous animals in the world due to its highly aggressive and unpredictable nature. They are threatened by habitat loss and poaching for their meat and ivory canine teeth.

Sand and water can be separated by any of the following two methods:

(a) Sedimentation and decantation: Mixture is kept undisturbed for some time. After some time, sand being heavier and insoluble in water, settles down at the bottom of container. Now, water is poured into another container to separate it from sand.

(b) Filtration: Mixture of sand and water is passed through a filter paper (a filter with very fine pores). Sand particles being larger in size are retained by the filter paper and get separated from water.

Still he demands dowry. Her father is ready to pay him also. It is the girl herself who raises her voice against this marriage. She is criticised and humiliated for standing up for her dignity. But she is firm and decides the course of her life.
