  1. He acts as the Chairperson of the Municipal Corporation.
  2. He presides over the meetings of the corporation and regulates the meetings.
  3. The Mayor generally lacks executive authority. The Municipal Commissioner is the Chief Executive Officer and all executive powers are vested in the Municipal Commissioner. Mayor is the proper channel of communication between the Commissioner and the State Government.
  4. He is responsible for hiring and firing staff and for implementing legislation passed by the council.
  5. He is responsible for ceremonial duties and some cities may give the mayor legislative powers as well.
  6. The tenure of the mayor is five years.
