Under the phenomena of power-sharing, powers are shared among different social groups, the religious and linguistic groups or among other weaker section and women. Power can be shared between social and linguistic groups in the following ways:

  1. There are countries where socially and economically weak sections and women are given legal and constitutional protection in terms of representation in the local bodies. This is done to enable them to be a part of decision making.
  2. In India, there is a provision in the Constitution to have reserved constituencies for the members of the socially and economically backward classes. At the same time, one-third of the seats are reserved for the women in the legislatures. This ensures a fair share of power.
  3. Minorities are well accommodated through the reserved constituencies in assemblies and the parliament of our country.
  4. In Belgium, the provision of community government for the linguistic groups was introduced to avoid a civil strike in the country.
