The process of breakdown of glucose in a cell are as follows:
The first step in the breakdown of glucose both in presence of O2 and in absence of O2 is same. In this step, glucose is broken down into pyruvate. Second step which involves further breakdown of private into simple compounds can take place in two different ways:
(a) In presence of O2: In the presence of O2, private is converted into CO2 and water. Energy released during aerobic respiration is much greater than that released during an anaerobic respiration.
(b)In absence of O2: In the absence of O2 in yeast, pyruvate is converted into ethanol and CO2 and the process is called fermentation. In absence of O2, in our muscle cells, pyruvate is converted into lactic acid. The build up of lactic acid in muscle cells causes cramps.

(i) In the presence of oxygen- When breakdown of glucose is carried out in the presence of oxygen in a cell, it is called as aerobic respiration. Glucose is converted into a 3 carbon molecule called pyruvate which further breaks down in the presence of oxygen to form carbon dioxide and water. Energy is released in this process.
(ii)In the presence of oxygen- When breakdown of glucose is carried out in the Absence of oxygen in a cell, it is called as anaerobic respiration.Glucose is converted into a 3 carbon molecule called pyruvate which further breaks down in the absence of oxygen to give lactic acid and ethyl alcohol. This process is called fermentation.

V=375 cm³,l=20 cm,b=7.5 cm h=?
V = lbh
20 (7.5) h = 375
150 h = 375
h = 375/150 = 2.5 cm

Refractive index
Speed of light in vacuum= 3.00×108 m/s.
The amount of change in speed of light in a medium depend upon the property of medium(refractive index)
Refractive index is a measure of how much speed of light changes when it enter the medium from air.
Absolute refractive index is the ratio of speed of light in vacuum or air to speed of light in the medium.
c
n=——
ν
Relative refractive index
Speed of light in medium 1
n21 = ————————————–
Speed of light in medium 2
Refractive index of medium 2 wrt medium 1 is known as refractive index of medium 2.
Speed of light in medium 2
n12= ————————————–
Speed of light in medium 1
Refractive index of medium 1 wrt medium 2 is known as refractive index of medium 1.
1)When light goes from rarer medium to denser medium.
Sin i n1
——- = —— >1
Sin r n2
Sin i >Sin r
∠i=∠r
Reflected ray bend toward normal.
2)When light goes from denser medium to rarer medium.
Sin i n2
——- = ——- <1
sin r n1
Sin i < Sin r
∠i < ∠r
Reflected ray bend away from the normal.
Refractive index depend on nature of material of medium,density of medium,colour or wavelength of light.

The entire tertiary sector has not grown in importance because of the peculiarity of the skills and income it entails. Highly skilled and educated professionals make the upper end of this spectrum whereas the other end comprises of low skilled people, small shopkeepers, repairpersons, transport persons, domestic servants etc.
Though the highly skilled professionals make rapid growth in terms of development and income, those at the lower end are barely able to make a living. Such a disparity has hindered the growth of the tertiary sector in entirety.

Pure acids in the liquid state are exceedingly poor conductors of electricity. The fact that aqueous solutions of acids conduct electricity is definite evidence of the existence of ions in these solutions. Acids undergo dissociation in aqueous solution to form H+ ions.
When electricity is passed through an aqueous solution of an acid, the H+ ions reach the cathode and each H+ ion picks up one electron from the cathode to form H2 gas. Because of this reaction, an aqueous solution of acid conducts electricity.
HCl(aq) → H+(aq) + Cl–(aq)

He stalks in his vivid stripes
The few steps of his cage,
On pads of velvet quiet,
In his quiet rage.
WORD MEANINGS
stalks – stride, to move quietly and slowly in a threatening way
vivid – bright
stripes – long narrow bands
pads – the soft part under the foot of the tiger
rage – anger
Exp – The poet sees a tiger locked in a concrete cell in the zoo. It is a very small cage. The tiger can hardly take a few steps along the length of the cage. He looks majestic as he slowly moves up and down in his cage. The sharp and clear stripes on his body are of strong bright colour. His pads are velvet soft. Inspite of all his strength, he now lies imprisoned behind the bars. The caged tiger is angry. He is full of rage, but is quiet because he knows that he is helpless here.

The distribution pattern of the Railway network.
- The northern plains with their vast level land, high population density and rich agricultural resources provided the most favourable condition for their growth.
- In the hilly terrains of the peninsular region, railway tracts are laid through low hills, gaps or tunnels.
- The Himalayan mountainous regions too are unfavourable for the construction of railway lines due to high relief, sparse population and lack of economic opportunities. Likewise,
- It was difficult to lay railway lines on the sandy plain of western Rajasthan, swamps of Gujarat, forested tracks of Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Odisha and Jharkhand.
- The contiguous stretch of Sahyadri could be crossed only through gaps or passes (Ghats).
- The development of the Konkan railway along the west coast has facilitated the movement of passengers and goods.
