Reflection of light is the phenomenon of bouncing back of light in the same medium on striking the surface of any object.
• The two laws of reflection are:
(i) the incident ray, the reflected ray and the normal (at the point of incidence), all lie in the same plane.
(ii) the angle of reflection (<i>r</i>) is always equal to the angle of incidence (<i>i</i>)
∠<i>r</i> = ∠<i>i</i>
Yogita Ingle 5 years, 3 months ago
- The law of reflection defines that upon reflection from a smooth surface, the angle of the reflected ray is equal to the angle of the incident ray, with respect to the normal to the surface that is to a line perpendicular to the surface at the point of contact.
- The reflected ray is always in the plane defined by the incident ray and the normal to the surface at the point of contact of the incident ray.

Let the speed of the second train be x km hr. Then, the speed of the first train is (x + 5) km/hr.
Let O be the position of the railway station from which the two trains leave.

Distance travelled by the first train in 2 hours
= OA = Speed x Time
= 2 (x + 5) km
Distance travelled by the second train in 2 hours
= OB = Speed x Time
= 2x km
By using pythagoras theorem, we have,
AB2 = OA2 + OB2
⇒ 502 = {2(x + 5)}2+ {2x}2
⇒ 2500 = 4(x + 5)2 + 4x2
⇒ 8x2 + 40x – 2400 = 0
⇒ x2 + 5x – 300 = 0
⇒ x2 + 20x – 15x – 300 = 0
⇒ x (x + 20) – 15 (x + 20) = 0
⇒ (x + 20) (x – 15) = 0
⇒ x = –20 or x = 15
⇒ x = 15
[∵ cannot be negative]
Hence, the speed of the second train is 15 km/hr and the speed of the first train is 20 km/hr.

Haemoglobin is the respiratory pigment that transports oxygen to the body cells for cellular respiration. Therefore, deficiency of haemoglobin in blood can affect the oxygen supplying capacity of blood. This can lead to deficiency of oxygen in the body cells. It can also lead to a disease called anaemia. The average haemoglobin content of blood, irrespective of ***, is 14.5 gm per 100 mL.

The poet is describing the various wild animals. These animals are very dangerous and she has introduced them one by one in a very funny way. First of all she tells us about an Asian lion. She says that if you are visiting the jungles of the east and there you see an animal which has tawny skin and he roars so loudly that you will die out of fear. This means that you have seen an Asian lion. Next in the line is the Bengal tiger that she has explained to be a royal animal that at once attacks and kills a man. She says by adding humour that if this beautiful black striped animal kills you and eats you, then you have surely met a Bengal tiger. After this, she says that if the reader met an animal that has black spotted skin and it at once jumps on him, then it means that the reader has met a leopard. Moreover, she says that if one will cry out in pain, it maybe of no use as the leopard will not stop attacking him. Then she moves on to the bear that she says will hug very tightly. This is the way to recognize a bear as it kills a person by hugging him very tightly. So, she says that the bear will continue to hug us tightly and that is the only way to recognize him. After this, she asks a question to the readers that do they know how to recognize beasts that hunt their prey. Here she explains about hyenas which she thinks have a smiling face and the crocodiles that have tears in their eyes. This can be seen when they are killing their prey. The last one in the list is the Chameleon. She says that it is a lizard - like creature which doesn’t have ears and wings just like a lizard. Only this can help you differentiate between a lizard and chameleon. She further says that the chameleon has a quality of changing its color according to the colour of the surface. So, to explain this she says that if the reader looks at the tree and if he can only see the tree, this means that there is a chameleon sitting on it which has already turned its color to brown just like the branch of the tree.

Bholi’s marriage was going to take place with Bishamber who himself was forty-five or fifty years old. He also limped and had two children from his first wife. Even then he demanded 5000 rupees as dowry. Bholi stopped the marriage by throwing away the garland in the fire. She threw away the veil and asked her father to take back the money and refused to marry Bishamber. She was indeed correct in doing so.

Poetic Devices Used in the Poem
Simile : When comparison is made between two words using ‘like’ or ‘as’.
- Moth like a fireplace
- Belinda was as brave as a barrel
- Repetition
- And the little
- Suddenly, suddenly they heard
- Belinda paled and she cried Help! Help!
Simile
- Snorting like an engine
- Clashed his tails like irons in a dungeon
- He went at the pirate like a robin at the worm
Alliteration : Repetition of initial consonant sounds in the same line.
And he held in his teeth.
Oxymoron: In this poem, the poet uses the device of an oxymoron when he writes the phrase ‘pet dragon’. We know that dragons are dangerous creatures, and therefore, cannot be kept as pets.
Simile: In this poem, the poet uses the device of simile in the 3rd line of the 2nd stanza when he compares Belinda’s dog with mustard, saying that both are sharp, and also uses the word ‘as’ while making the comparison. The poet also uses this device in the 3rd line of the 3rd stanza when he compares the dragon’s mouth with a fireplace, and also uses the word ‘like’ while making this comparison.
Metaphor: In this poem, the poet uses the device of metaphor in the 3rd line of the 3rd stanza when he compares the dragon’s nose with a chimney.
Personification: In this poem, the poet uses the device of personification with respect to Belinda’s kitten, mouse, and dog. In the 2nd line of the 5th stanza, he gives them all the human ability to speak to and tease another being.

Budding is a form of asexual reproduction where a bud or outgrowth from the end or side of the parent organism emerges and develops into a new organism. This is seen in fungi, hydra as well as in plants. Usually, the protrusion stays attached to the primary organism for a while, before becoming free. The new organism is naturally genetically identical to the parent. When yeast buds, one cell becomes two cells. When a sponge buds, a part of the parent sponge falls off and starts to grow into a new sponge.
In Hydra, a bud develops as an outgrowth due to repeated cell division at one specific site. These buds develop into tiny individuals and when fully mature, detach from the parent body and become new individuals

Money cannot buy all the goods and services that a person may need to live well. Income by itself is not a completely adequate indicator of material goods and services that citizens are able to use. For example, normally, money cannot buy a pollution-free environment or ensure that a person gets unadulterated medicines, unless a person can afford to shift to a community that already has all these things. Money may also not be able to protect individual from infections, disease, unless the whole of our community takes preventive steps.
