    During her first bus journey, Valli was full of enthusiasm and excitement. She enjoyed the landscape, the canal, palm trees, distant mountains and green fields stretching out as far as her eye could see. She reacted strongly when she was called ‘a child’ or ‘madam’. The self-respecting girl refused to accept a free cold drink offered by the bus conductor. She planned her bus journey during the nap hours of her mother. Interestingly, her mother could never know of the bus journey her daughter undertook during her nap in the afternoon.

    ‘लखनवी अंदाज’ पाठ में नवाब साहब की सनक किसी भी तरह से उचित नहीं थी, क्योंकि अपनी सनक में उन्होने खाद्य पदार्थ का नुकसान ही किया। कोई भी खाद्य पदार्थ का महत्व होता है, उसको यूँ बर्बाद नहीं करना चाहिए था। अगर उन्हें खीरा खाना ही नहीं था तो उसे काटते ही नही। वह उस खीरे को किसी जरूरतमंद भूखे गरीब को दान दे सकते थे, लेकिन उन्होंने अपने नवाबी शौक और दिखावे में खीरे को काटा और फिर बिना खाए फेंक दिया। यह उनकी नकारात्मक सनक थी, जिसमें उन्होंने हानि ही की। हालाँकि सनक के सकारात्मक रूप भी हो सकते हैं। सकारात्मक रूप से कोई सनक सवार हो जाए तो किसी असंभव कार्य को भी संभव किया जा सकता है। लेकिन यहां पर ऐसी कोई बात नहीं थी, इसलिए नवाब साहब द्वारा खीरे को काट कर बिना खाए फेंक देना किसी भी दृष्टि से उचित नहीं था। यह केवल उनका व्यर्थ का दिखावा और पाखंड था।
