There are Irish fighting Irish, there are English fighting English, on the Scottish side of the water there are Scots fighting against Bruce because they support the Plantagenets as well," he said. The high point of the Scots in Ireland was 1316 when they cut a swathe through Louth and almost down to Dublin. By inheritance in 1603, James VI of Scotland became king of England and Ireland, thus forming a personal union of the three kingdoms. Scotland subsequently entered into a political union with the Kingdom of England on 1 May 1707 to create the new Kingdom of Great Britain.

In this reaction, CuO is changing into Cu. That is, oxygen is being removed from copper oxide. Removal of oxygen from a compound is called reduction, so we can say that copper oxide is being reduced to copper. On the other hand H2 is changing into H2O. That is, oxygen is being added to hydrogen. The addition of oxygen to a substance is called oxidation, so we can say that oxygen is being oxidised to water.
The chemical reaction in which the oxidation and reduction takes place simultaneously is called redox reaction.
