In a democracy, the three organs of the government namely executive, legislature and judiciary perform different functions. The powers of all the three organs are separated so that no organ becomes too powerful and is able to keep a check on the other organs. For example, even though ministers and government officials exercise power, they are held responsible to the Parliament or the State Assemblies. Likewise, although judges are appointed by the executive branch of the government, they have the authority to check the functioning of the executive or legislations passed by the legislature. This arrangement is called the system of checks and balances.

Land resources in India are primarily divided into agricultural land, forest land, land meant for pasture and grazing, land for other non-agricultural use(such as housing, roads and industry) and waste land (rocky, arid and desert areas). In 2002-03, 54 per cent of the total land area was cultivable or fallow, 22.5 per cent was covered by forests and 3.5 per cent was used for grazing. The rest was waste land, with traces of miscellaneous cultivation.

According to the recent data, about 54% of the total land area is cultivable or fallow, 22.5% is covered by forests, and 3.45% is used for grazing. The rest is waste land, with traces of miscellaneous cultivation. Land use pattern refers to the way a particular piece of land us utilized by the authority to manage it in a planned way. A piece of land can be distributed according to the requirements for agriculture, residence, forests etc. India is the second most populated country of the world. Due to this huge population which is increasing day by day. The need of land resources to make more livable and factory sites are also increasing. That's why the land use pattern is changing day by day.

The magnesium ribbon should be cleaned before burning in the air because the layer of magnesium oxide (which is formed due to the reaction of magnesium with air ) can be removed in order to get the desired chemical reaction. When the magnesium metal burns it reacts with oxygen found in the air to form Magnesium Oxide. ... After it burns, it forms a white powder of the magnesium oxide. Magnesium gives up two electrons to oxygen atoms to form this powdery product. This is an exothermic reaction.

Continuous use of land over a prolonged period of time without taking necessary steps to conserve and manage it, has resulted in land degradation.
Four human activities responsible for land degradation in India are as follows :
(i) In states like Jharkhand, Chhattisgarh, Madhya Pradesh and Orissa deforestation due to mining have caused severe land degradation. Mining sites are dug, drilled or quarried and abondoned after excavation work is over, leaving the landover burdened and in a highly degraded state.
(ii) Mineral processing like grinding of limestone for cement industry and calcite and soapstone for ceramic industry generate huge quality of mineral dust in the atmosphere which ultimately settles down on the land. It retards the process of infiltration of water into the soil, thus, degrading the land. Discharge of industrial effluents and wastes cause pollution and land degradation in industrial regions.
(iii) In states like Gujarat, Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh and Maharashtra overgrazing is one of the main reasons for land degradation.
(iv) In Punjab, Haryana and Western Uttar Pradesh over-irrigation is responsible for land degradation. It leads to water logging which in turn increases salinity and alkalinity in the soil and reduces its fertility.

Meghna Thapar 5 years, 6 months ago

Human interventions which are causing land degradation are (1) deforestation, (2) overgrazing by livestock, (3) mismanagement of agricultural land, (4) overexploitation of the vegetative cover for domestic use, and (5) (bio)industrial activities. The main causes of the land degradation includes climate change, land clearance and deforestation, depletion of soil nutrients through poor farming practices, overgrazing and over grafting. In India, water erosion is the most prominent reason of land degradation. Its impacts can be far-reaching, including loss of soil fertility, destruction of species habitat and biodiversity, soil erosion, and excessive nutrient runoff into lakes. Land degradation also has serious knock-on effects for humans, such as malnutrition, disease, forced migration, cultural damage, and even war.

Importance of soil

As one it the most important components of the sustainability of an ecosystem, soil we said be of great importance when it comes to the growth of vegetation.

Factors Responsible for the Formation of Soil are

1. Parent Material: Deposited by streams or derived from in-situ weathering, these soil come with many properties like the mineral composition, the color, the particle size, and the chemical elements.

2. Climate: The rate of weathering of the parent rock is affected by varied climate. Hence it is said to be an important factor in determining soil formation.

3. Role of temperature: Any change in temperature can cause shrinking and swelling, frost action and general weathering in soils. Hence, temparature is said to play a vital role in soil formation.

Per Capita Income is not an adequate indicator of economic development for the following reasons : It is an average amount of the total income which means it can't show the actual income status of a country. ... It needs other criterion to judge the economic development like literacy rate .

Limitations:

1.It does not indicate the disparities in the distribution of income. E.g. the wide gap between the incomes of extremely rich and very poor people. 2. It does not indicate long-term sustainability as non-renewable resources are liable to be exhausted.

Per capita income (PCI) or average income measures the average income earned per person in a given area (city, region, country, etc.) in a specified year. It is calculated by dividing the area's total income by its total population.  Limitations of per capita income are : (i) A rise in per capita income is due to rise in prices and not due to increase in physical output, it is not a reliable index of economic development. (ii) National income rises but its distribution makes the rich richer and the poor poorer.

PER capita income is calculated on the total income of a country divided by its total population.
Money cannot buy all the goods and services that are needed to live well. So, income by itself is not completely adequate indicator of material goods and services that citizens are able to use.
Limitations of Per capita income as an indicator of development:

1. It does not indicate the disparities in the distribution of incomes .

Example:The wide gap between the incomes of the extremely rich and very poor people.

2. It does not indicate long term sustainability as non renewable resources are liable to be exhausted.

3. The method of calculting per capita income also varies among different countries. Thus,it is not highly reliable for comparison.

4.The data represented by per capita income is only theoritically possible and not practically.

5. It does not play a major part in classification of nation.
