Differentiating Property |
Motor |
Generator |
|
1 |
Definition |
An electric motor is a machine that converts electrical energy to mechanical energy. |
An electric generator is a machine that converts mechanical energy to electrical energy.` |
|
2 |
Rule |
Electric motor follows Fleming’s left-hand rule. |
Electric generator follows Fleming’s right-hand rule. |
|
3 |
Principle |
Motors works on the principle that a current carrying conductor experiences a force when placed in a magnetic field. |
Generators work on the principle of electromagnetic induction. |
|
4 |
Driving force for shaft |
The shaft of an electric motor is driven by a magnetic force which is developed between the armature and field. |
The shaft of an electric generator is connected to the rotor which is driven by a mechanical force. |
|
5 |
Current Usage |
In a motor, current is supplied to the armature winding. |
In a generator, current is produced in the armature winding. |
|
6 |
Example |
Ceiling fans, cars, etc. are all examples of motor. |
In power stations, generator is used to generate electricity. |

- It is a crystalline solid which is white in colour.
- It exists as a monohydrated salt (Na2CO3.10H2O), anhydrous salt (Na2CO3), heptahydrous salt (Na2CO3.7H2O) and decahydrate salt (Na2CO3.10H2O).
- Sodium carbonate is basic in nature.
- It has a melting point of 851°C.
- In the presence of heat, it loses its water to form an anhydrous salt (soda ash).
Na2CO3.10H2O → Na2CO3.H2O → Na2CO3 (at 373 K)

It is produced by the action of Chlorine on dry slaked lime. It is represented as CaOCl2, though the actual composition is quite complex.
Ca(OH)2 + Cl2 → CaOCl2 + H2O
On standing for a longer time, it undergoes auto oxidation due to which bleaching action decreases.

It is a white powder. When mixed with water (1/3 of its mass), it evolves heat and quickly sets to a hard porous mass within 5 to 15 minutes. During setting, a slight expansion (about 1%) in volume occurs so that it fills the mould completely and takes a sharp impression.

Three factors which determine the outcomes of politics of social divisions:
- The people's perception of their identities: When this is singular, the accommodation of other identities becomes difficult.
- Representation of a community by political leaders: While representing a community, if politicians raise demands that are constitutional, then it is easier to accommodate those demands.
- The government's reaction: If the reasonable demands of a community are suppressed by the government, then it leads to social divisions, which in turn threaten the integrity of the country.

Communal politics is based on the idea that religion is the principal basis of social community.
The followers of a particular religion must belong to one community. Their fundamental interests are the same.
It also follows that people who follow different religions cannot belong to the
same social community.

The earth behaves as a magnetic dipole . Therefore a freely suspended magnet always points towards in the north-south direction because the north pole of the suspended magnet attracts the south pole of the earth's magnet which is the geographical north pole of the earth. Similarly the south pole of the suspended magnet attracts the north pole of the earth's magnet which is the geographical south pole of the earth.

The factors that determine the outcome of politics of social divisions are-
1- People's perceptions :- this is the most important factor that decides the outcome of politics of social division. if the people see their identities in singular and exclusive terms then it will lead to social division and violence.
2- Raising the demands by political leaders:- the outcome of polics also depends on how political leaders raise the demands of any community. it is easier to accommodate demands that are within the Constitutional framework.
3- Reaction of government :- the outcome of politics of social division also depend on reaction of government. that how the government reacts to the demand of different groups.

The resistance of the wire will decrease if we made the conductor thicker because R (resistance) = p (rho). l (length) / A (area of cross-section or thickness of wire).Area is directly proportional to the radius of the wire. So as you can see if area of cross-section ( or thickness) of wire increases, resistance decreases and more current flows through it.

The magnetic field lines around a straight conductor carrying a current are concentric circles. The direction of a magnetic field is given by the Right-Hand Thumb Rule.
Right-Hand Thumb Rule:
Imagine that you are holding a straight current-carrying conductor in your right hand such that the thumb points towards the direction of the current. Then, your curved fingers wrapped around the conductor point in the direction of the field lines of the magnetic field.
The magnitude of the magnetic field due to a straight current-carrying conductor at a given point is
- Directly proportional to the current flowing through the conductor.
- Inversely proportional to the distance of that point from the conductor.
