The female figures as an allegory of the nation:

  • Artists found a way out to represent a country in the form of a person.
  • Then nations were portrayed as female figures.
  • The female figure was chosen to personify the nation did not stand for any particular woman in real life.
  • It gave the abstract idea of the nation a concrete form.
  • Thus, the female figure became an allegory of the nation.
  • During the French Revolution artists used the formal allegory to portray idea such as Liberty, Justice and the Republic.

Let us assume that √3 is a rational number.

then, as we know a rational number should be in the form of p/q

where p and q are co- prime number.

So,

√3 = p/q { where p and q are co- prime}

√3q = p

Now, by squaring both the side

we get,

(√3q)² = p²

3q² = p² ........ ( i )

So,

if 3 is the factor of p²

then, 3 is also a factor of p ..... ( ii )

=> Let p = 3m { where m is any integer }

squaring both sides

p² = (3m)²

p² = 9m²

putting the value of p² in equation ( i )

3q² = p²

3q² = 9m²

q² = 3m²

So,

if 3 is factor of q²

then, 3 is also factor of q

Since

3 is factor of p & q both

So, our assumption that p & q are co- prime is wrong

hence,. √3 is an irrational number

An oxidizing agent (oxidant), gains electrons and is reduced in a chemical reaction. It is also known as electron acceptor. The oxidizing agent is usually in one of its higher possible oxidation states as it will gain electrons and be reduced.

Examples of oxidizing agents are:

  • potassium nitrate
  • halogens
  • nitric acid

A reducing agent (reductant), loses electrons and is oxidized in a chemical reaction. It is typically in one of its lower possible oxidation states and is known as an electron donor. A reducing agent is oxidized because it loses electrons in the redox reaction.

Examples of reducing agents are:

  • formic acid
  • the earth metals
  • sulfite compounds
