fire and ice, both are just as competent in bringing the world to a catastrophic end.

Robert Frost’s poem “Fire and Ice” expresses the profound idea that the world would end in either of two ways, either by ice or fire. Both the components are compared with self-destructing human emotions: hatred and desire. The poem, very artistically, underpins the philosophy that we let our emotions rule us and if don’t control them they will surely destroy everything around us. Similarly, he thinks fire and ice, both are just as competent in bringing the world to a catastrophic end.

Johann Gottfried Herder was a romantic thinker of German origin. He claimed that the real German culture was the culture of the common people—das volk. Also, he said that the true spirit of the nation (volksgeist) could be effectively popularized only through folk songs, folk poetry and folk dance. Hence, according to Gottfried, the collection and record of these forms of folk culture is of essence in the project of nation-building.

The young seagull's parents had tried almost everything to help him overcome his fear of flying.

They scolded him, threatened and even left him to starve at the ledge unless he makes an attempt for his flight.

The young seagull was afraid of flying over the sea because he thought he would drown. So the family decided to teach him a lesson.

Seagull's mother tore a piece of fish that lay at her feet. She threw it in front of his brothers and sisters and they made their flights and caught it. She threw a piece in front of young seagull as well.

He was too hungry and starving. This hunger compelled him to attempt his first flight and he flapped his wings downwards and outwards. He was scared but soon he realised that his wings had automatically opened wide.

He landed safely on the sea, floated on it and overcame his fear.

He was successful. His family was screaming in joy all around him for his first ever flight.

He also admired Richard for his spirit to do his very best all the time. His social studies teacher, Mr. Weiherer always opened Richard's mind to new ideas. He was impressed by Richard's committment towards his work. He mentioned that Richard used to put in three or four hours at night doing debate research besides doing all his research on butterflies and his other interests was remarkable. He added that Richard was competitive. He explained that Richard was interested in winning because he wanted to do the best job he could. He wants to be the best for the right reasons. 1. His mother encouraged his interest in learning. She was his only childhood friend and companion. She took him on trips, bought him scientific equipments and helped him in many other ways. She also supported his collecting butterflies. She opened the world of science to him by introducing him to Dr Frederick A. Urquhart of the University of Toronto, Canada.

2. When Richard Ebright did not win anything at the science fair, he realized that the winners had tried to conduct real experiments. He, on the other hand, had simply made a neat display. He had shown slides of frog tissues under a microscope. It was the first time that he got a hint of what real science was. This event served to develop the competitive spirit in him. Ultimately, it was this spirit of enthusiasm and competitiveness that drove him to achieve new heights in science.

3. He wanted to tag the monarch butterflies to study their migration. Since butterfly season lasted only six weeks he wouldn’t be able catch many and tag them. Hence, he decided to raise them in his basement. His basement was home to thousands of butterflies for many years.
