The human respiratory tract is made up of nostril, larynx, nasal chamber, pharynx, trachea, epiglottis, alveoli, bronchioles, bronchi and lungs. Within the lungs, the oxygen is exchanged for carbon dioxide waste through millions of microscopic sacs known as alveoli. The oxygen inhaled diffuses into the capillaries of the lungs, binds to the haemoglobin and is pumped into the bloodstream. The carbon dioxide from the blood diffuses through the alveoli and is expelled by exhalation.
The alveoli are thin-walled and richly supplied with a network of blood vessels to facilitate the exchange of gases between blood and the air-filled in alveoli. They have a balloon-like structure that provides maximum surface area for exchange of gases.

- The Green Revolution in India refers to the series of researches and technological advancements in the field of agriculture. It led to a great increase in the crop produced by using high yield variety seeds, fertilisers, extensive irrigation etc.
- The Green Revolution greatly impacted the farmers of Punjab. Due to large scale production, the farmers became prosperous. Since their purchasing power improved, they were able to invest more money in agriculture. Dobereiner's law of triads: According to which in certain triads the atomic mass of the central element was merely the arithmetic mean of the atomic masses of the other two elements and the properties of the middle element were in between those of the end members. These families of three elements became known as Dobereiner's Triads.
Merits-
- From this classification, one point became clear that properties of the elements have some relationship with their atomic masses.
Demerits-
- In some triads, all the three elements possessed nearly the same atomic masses, hence the law was rejected.
- The concept was not applicable to all the known elements but only to a limited number of elements.

The internal (external) bisector of an angle of a triangle divides the opposite side internally (externally) in the ratio of the corresponding sides containing the angle.
Case (i) (Internally) :
Given : In ΔABC, AD is the internal bisector of ∠BAC which meets BC at D.
To prove : BD/DC = AB/AC
Construction : Draw CE ∥ DA to meet BA produced at E.
Proof (Internally) :
Because CE ∥ DA and AC is the transversal, we have
∠DAC = ∠ACE (alternate angles) -----(1)
and
∠BAD = ∠AEC (corresponding angles) -----(2)
Because AD is the angle bisector of ∠A,
∠BAD = ∠DAC -----(3)
From (1), (2) and (3), we have
∠ACE = ∠AEC
Thus in ΔACE, we have
AE = AC
(Sides opposite to equal angles are equal)
Now, in ΔBCE we have, CE ∥ DA.
By Thales Theorem,
BD/DC = BA/AE
Because AE = AC,
BD/DC = AB/AC
Hence the theorem.
Case (i) (Externally) :
Given : In ΔABC, AD is the external bisector of ∠BAC and intersects BC produced at D.
To prove : BD/DC = AB/AC
Construction : Draw CE ∥ DA meeting AB at E.
Proof (Externally) :
Because CE ∥ DA and AC is a transversal, we have
∠ECA = ∠CAD (alternate angles) -----(1)
Also, CE ∥ DA and BP is a transversal, we have
∠CEA = ∠DAP (corresponding angles) -----(2)
But AD is the bisector of ∠CAP,
∠CAD = ∠DAP -----(3)
From (1), (2) and (3), we have
∠CEA = ∠ECA
(Sides opposite to equal angles are equal)
In ΔBDA, we have EC ∥ AD.
By Thales Theorem,
BD/DC = BA/AE
Because AE = AC,
BD/DC = BA/AC
Hence the theorem.
