(i) Forelimb of human and bird are homologous organs. They have same structural design and developmental origin but they have different functions and appearance. Homologous organs help us to understand that the organism has evolved from a common ancestor. The more common characteristics the two species have, the more closely they are related.
(ii) Analogous organs are those organs design and developmental origin but have similar appearance and perform similar functions.
Example: The wings of birds and bats look similar but have different design in their structure. They have a common function of flying but their origins are not common. So, birds and bats are not closely related.
(iii) Fossils and their study is useful in knowing about the species which are no longer alive. They provide evidence and missing links between two classes. They are helpful in forming a sequence of organisms in the pathway of evolution. Thus, fossils have an importance in deciding evolutionary relationship. Archaeopteryx is a fossil bird. It had feathers, fused bones and beak which are exclusively bird structures. It also had some features which are found in reptiles, e.g. teeth in jaw, claws on free fingers and a long tail. This fossil provides a clue that birds have evolved from reptiles.

In figure, a circle touches all the four sides of a quadrilateral ABCD/ whose sides AB = 6 cm, BC = 7 cm and CD = 4 cm. Find AD.
Since, length of two tangents drawn from an external point of circle are equal.
So, AP = AS
BP = BQ DR = DS
and RC = CQ
Adding all, we get
(AP + BP) + (DR + RC) = AS + BQ + DS + CQ
⇒ (AP + BP) + (DR + RC)
= (AS + DS) + (BQ + CQ)
⇒ AB + DC = AD + BC
⇒ 6 + 4 = AD + 7
⇒ 10 = AD + 7
AD = 10 – 7 = 3 cm
Hence, AD = 3 cm.

Last month I bought a Samsung TV from your shop. It had warranty of two years and I made a full payment at the time of purchase. But now I find that some of the features are not working properly. There are colourful shadows on the sides of the screen and they are not being adjusted. Also, there are some buttons on the remote that are not working.

Mr keesing, the professor started cracking jokes every now and then in front of the class.

An Indian farmer will not want his son to become a farmer because
(a) The share of agriculture in India's GDP has been declining since 1950 and so farming has a bleak future in terms of income from it in future.
(b) Land reform laws have been enacted more than 40 years ago, but their implementation is inadequate, resulting in no improvement in the condition of small farmers.
(c) Exploitation by middlemen continues, resulting in farmers not getting a remunerative price for their produce.
(d) Irrigation infrastructure is still inadequate in many parts of the country, which makes the farmers dependent on the vagaries of the weather. A bad monsoon can spell doom for the crop.
