Funny and humorous incidents keep happening in our life. Ironically, they just happen unexpectedly as pleasant surprises.

One such humorous incident happened recently. During the recent Diwali vacation, I got an opportunity to go to Mumbai to attend my uncle's son's wedding. It was quite a long journey. So we had our berths booked in the second class sleeper coach.

The compartment we got, we had to share with another family. Our berths faced one another. So till evening we sat on the seats. Since they also belonged to our city, soon a friendship developed between the two families. The auntie was a very fat lady. She occupied most of the space of the compartment. But we could not do anything about it.

Well, during the night something funny happened! I fell from my upper berth on to the fat auntie who was sleeping on the lowest berth. Fortunately neither of us was hurt. Thenceforth everybody made fun of me. I just cannot control my laughter whenever I think about it.

As you mentioned, NaOH does not react with 95% or 100% ethyl alcohol since NaOH is not efficient (strong enough) base to abstract a proton from ethanol (this proton is not acidic at all, it is almost neutral). ... Sodium ethoxide can be made by reacting sodium metal or sodium hydride with absolute ethanol

Yogita Ingle 5 years, 1 month ago

Ethanol does not react with dilute sodium hydroxide,

The reason is also correct the ethoxide ion is the stronger base than hydroxide ion.

Non-cooperation

Civil-Disobedience

It was launched on  September 5th, 1920 it ended on 5th February 1922 It began on March 12, 1930, through the launch of the Salt Satyagraha
The Non-Cooperation Movement sought to bring the working of the government to a standstill by not cooperating with the administration. The Civil Disobedience Movement was an attempt at paralysing the administration by breaking some specific rules & regulations.
There was large scale participation of Muslim working class in the Non-Cooperation movement The Civil-Disobedience movement saw less participation from the Muslim community due to the policy of divide and rule by the British and the communal propaganda of the Muslim League and the Hindu Mahasabha
The non-cooperation movement was geographically confined to certain parts of India The civil disobedience movement saw widespread geographical coverage and mass participation in comparison to the non-cooperation movement
The movement was called off in 1922 due to the Chauri-Chaura incident  (Occured on Feb 5th, 1922) The movement was withdrawn after the signing of the Gandhi-Irwin pact

Steps of construction:

  1. Draw circle with centre O and radius OA = 5 cm, .
  2. Mark another point B on the circle such that ∠AOB = 120°, supplementary to the angle between the tangents. Since the angle between the tangents to be constructed is 60°.

          ∴ ∠AOB = 180° – 60° = 120°.

3.Construct angles of 90° at A and B and extend the lines so as to intersect at point P.

      4. Thus, AP and BP are the required tangents to the circle.

Metal carbonates are formed by reaction of metal salt with CO2 or with a carbonate of a more reactive metal.

Metal Hydrogencarbonates are formed by reaction of metal salt with HCO3 or with a hydrogencarbonates of a more reactive metal.

Metal carbonates and Metal Hydrogencarbonates reacts with acids and produces corresponding metal salt, carbon dioxide and water.

Let us consider the reaction of sodium carbonate with dilute HCl. The reaction proceeds in the following manner.

Secondly let us consider the reaction of sodium hydrogencarbonate with dilute HCl. The reaction proceeds as follows.

Both the reaction produces CO2 which on passing through lime water makes lime water milky due to formation of calcium carbonate.

On passing excess carbon dioxide following reaction occurs.

Refractive index of glass with respect to air is given
μ=Speed of light in air/speed of light in glass =3×10m/s/ 2×108 m/s=1.5
Now,
μ=1/siniC

HRD Minister Ramesh Nishank announced a major CBSE syllabus reduction for the new academic year 2020-21 on July 7 which was soon followed by an official notification by CBSE on the same.

Considering the loss of classroom teaching time due to the Covid-19 pandemic and lockdown, CBSE reduced the syllabus of classes 9 to 12 with the help of suggestions from NCERT.

The Habsburg Empire ruled over Austria-Hungary. It was a patchwork of many different regions and peoples because:

It included the Alpine regions - the Tyrol, Austria and the Sudetenland – as well as Bohemia, where the aristocracy was predominantly German-speaking.

It also included the Italian-speaking provinces of Lombardy and Venetia.

In Hungary, half of the population spoke Magyar while the other half spoke a variety of dialects.

In Galicia, the aristocracy spoke Polish. Besides these three dominant groups, there also lived within the boundaries of the empire, a mass of subject peasant peoples – Bohemians and Slovaks to the north, Slovenes in Carniola, Croats to the south, and Roumans to the east in Transylvania.

In 1932, Gandhi founded the Harijan Sevak Sangh as part of his efforts to eradicate the concept of 'untouchability' from India's caste system. He put his close friend, the pioneering industrialist Ghanshyam Das Birla, in charge of the organisation. '16 Gandhi publicly put the 'abolition' of untouchability as the essential prerequisite for India's true independence. Yet, one of the charges levelled against Gandhi is that he acted as an apologist for the caste system. ... ......Gandhi believed this would permanently and unfairly divide India's social classes. A member of the more powerful Vaisya, or merchant caste, Gandhi nonetheless advocated the emancipation of the untouchables, whom he called Harijans, or “Children of God.”

Gaurav Seth 5 years, 1 month ago

Gandhi was not only a freedom fighter but also a great social reformer. He took fallowing steps and practices to eliminate the problem of untouchability :

1.  He termed the untouchables as harijans i.e sons of God and started weekly publication with the same name for their cause.

2.  He launched satyagraha for the entry of untouchables into temple, access to public wells and other public places.

3.  He adopted a harijan girl and married her to a brahaman boy.

4.  He went to fast unto death against the separate electorates for untouchables.

5.  He set up All India Anti-Untouchability League which later renamed the Harijan Sevak Sang. It worked for the upliftment of untouchables.

6.  He regarded untouchability as a greater evil and opined that it is not possible to win freedom until untouchability is abolished.
