Excertion means removing out of waste material from body. ( it happen as falling of leaf in plant and in animals it happen in the form of urine , uric acid and nitrogeneuse waste etc.)

Yogita Ingle 5 years ago

Elimination of toxic and waste products from the body is called excretion. Organisms like animals have an advanced and specialized system for excretion. But plants lack a well-developed excretory system like that in animals. They do not have special organs for excretion. Thus, excretion in plants is not so complex.

Transportation in animals is the combined effort of the circulatory system, and the excretory system.

  • Blood is the fluid that flows in the blood vessels and transports the digested food from the small intestine to various parts of the body.
  • There are two types of blood vessels- arteries and veins. The arteries carry oxygen-rich blood from the heart to different parts of the body and the oxygen-deficit blood is transported through the veins from all parts of the body to the heart.
  • The heart is the main organ that pumps blood throughout the body.
  • The process of removal of waste out of the cells is called excretion.
  • The nitrogenous waste, excess sugar in the blood, excess salts, undigested wastes, and carbon dioxide are the substances to be excreted from the body.
  • The lower organisms like amoeba, hydra, paramecium excrete the nitrogenous waste by the process of diffusion through the cell membrane, as they lack special excretory organs.
  • The human excretory system constitutes kidneys, ureter, urinary bladder, urethra.
  • Kidneys are the main excretory organ which regulates the balance of water and minerals in the body. They absorb minerals in the blood and eliminate the nitrogenous waste from the blood in the form of urine.

It is an important process to circulate water, essential nutrients, gases, and excretory products within the plant for various purposes. The vascular tissues are responsible for transportation in plants. The suction force helps in the transportation of water and minerals in the plant.

  • Xylem is a vascular tissue involved in the conduction of water from root hairs to the rest of the plant parts.
  • The transportation in the phloem is bidirectional. The food molecules are transported to the necessary regions with the help of phloem.
  • The root hairs absorb water and minerals from the soil and store it in vacuoles. This water is absorbed by the plants by the suction force.
  • The excess water in the plants is lost in the form of water vapour through the stomata in the leaves. This process is known as transpiration.
  • The prepared food substances are translocated to different organs of the plant through the phloem. The excess food is stored in the storage organs of the plant.

The heredity in most of the living organisms is found to be regulated by certain definite principles. Mendel opted for garden pea (pisum sativum) to conduct his experiments. His experiments with garden pea along with the inferences drawn together constitute, the foundation of modern genetics. Mendel's contributions were unique because of the use of distinct variables and application of mathematics to the problem. He kept the record of each generation separately and studied the inheritance of only one pair of characters at a time.

Yogita Ingle 5 years ago

Inheritance is the acquiring of genetic characteristics or traits from parents by their offspring. In humans, both parents equally contribute to the inheritance of traits. In 1860, Gregor Mendel studied the rules of inheritance of traits. He conducted an experiment on pea plants for the same. He cultivated pea plants and observed their pattern of inheritance from one generation to the next generation. This observation resulted in the discovery of three laws of inheritance, famously known as Mendel’s laws of Inheritance. Let us have a brief discussion on the contribution of Mendel in establishing the law of inheritance of traits.

Reproduction is not necessary for an individual as it is not a life process and consumes large amounts of energy. But it is a necessary for the survival of species. It is only through the reproduction we can continue our species

Francis Lalu 5 years ago

For survival, an individual needs energy which it obtains from life processes such as nutrition and respiration. Reproduction does not provide energy for survival. Instead, reproduction ensures transfer of genetic material from one generation to the next which helps in continuation of species. Hence, it is an important phenomenon for maintaining continuity of species.

Yogita Ingle 5 years ago

(a) For survival an individual needs energy which it obtains from life processes such as nutrition and respiration.
(b) Reproduction does not provide energy.

(c) Reproduction ensures transfer of genetic material from one generation to the next which helps in continuation of species.

Thus, reproduction does not help survive rather its an energy consuming process, however it is essential for the continuation of the species

Barter system was used in ancient times for the exchange goods. It was a system where one commodity, product or some goods was exchanged for another. For instance, if a person has 1 kg of sugar and he wants to have 1 kg of jaggery in exchange for that, he can exchange the same if there is someone who is willing to exchange jaggery for sugar. This process was called a commodity for commodity exchange. Further, it was replaced by the monetary system.

Concave mirrors , It is used as rear view in vehicles

Yogita Ingle 5 years ago

The mirror is a convex mirror as convex mirror always forms an image which is virtual, erect and diminished, when the object is placed in front of the mirror. The Ray diagram is as follows:

Convex mirrors are used in following applications:

1. In vehicles: Convex mirrors are used as rear-view mirrors in vehicles because the image obtained with the help of convex mirror is highly diminished in size and thus gives a wider field of view and helps the driver of the vehicle to view the traffic in much larger area behind the vehicle.

2. In shops: Convex mirrors are installed in shops to avoid the stealing of items by any customer or thieves. The shopkeeper can keep an eye on customer as a convex mirror forms a virtual, erect and diminished image and thus acts as shop security mirror.

Anmol Verma 5 years ago

The type of mirror used here is a CONVEX MIRROR because it always forms a virtual and erect image . This type of mirror (convex mirror) is commonly used as REAR VIEW MIRRORS IN VEHICLES..

Excretion in Humans: The biological process involved in the removal of various harmful metabolic wastes from the body is called excretion. The excretory system of human beings includes a pair of kidneys, a pair of ureters, a urinary bladder and a urethra. Let us see this process in detail now. The basic filtration unit in the kidneys, is a cluster of blood capillaries. Each such cluster is associated with the cup-shaped end of a tube, that collects the filtered urine. These filtration units are called nephrons, and each kidney contains several such clusters. The urine forming in each kidney then enters the ureter, which connects the kidneys with the urinary bladder.Urine is stored in the urinary bladder until the pressure of the expanded bladder leads to the urge to pass it out through the urethra.

Francis Lalu 5 years ago

Respiration in humans: Let us now see how respiration takes place in humans. We have broken down the process in points for better understanding, which you can now see on your screen. In human beings, air is taken into the body through the nostrils and is filtered by fine hair that line the passage. The air passes through the throat where rings of cartilage are present, which ensure that the air-passage does not collapse. The air then reaches the lungs, where the passage divides into smaller and smaller tubes which finally terminate in alveoli.  These alveoli are the places where exchange of gases takes place. The blood brings carbon dioxide from the rest of the body, which is released into the alveoli, and the oxygen in the alveolar air is taken up by blood, to be transported to all the cells in the body. Now the oxygen that is taken in our body, has to be transported all parts of the body. This is done by the respiratory pigment called haemoglobin, present in red blood cells.

Nutrition of Ameoba: Amoeba takes in food using temporary finger-like extensions on the cell surface which fuse over the food particle forming a food-vacuole. Inside the food vacuole, complex substances are broken down into simpler ones which then diffuse into the cytoplasm. Important diagram – amoeba engulfing a food vacuole

Francis Lalu 5 years ago

Nutrition in autotrophs: Autotrophs fulfil their food and energy requirements by the process of photosynthesis. The steps that take place during photosynthesis are: (i) Absorption of light energy by chlorophyll. (ii) Conversion of light energy to chemical energy and splitting of water molecules into hydrogen and oxygen. (iii) Reduction of carbon dioxide to carbohydrates. The carbon dioxide required by the plant is obtained through tiny pores present on the surface of the leaves called stomata. Note that the exchange of gases occurs across the surface of stems, roots and leaves as well. Water used in photosynthesis is taken up from the soil by the roots in terrestrial plants. Other materials like nitrogen, phosphorus, iron and magnesium are taken up from the soil. Important diagrams – from this unit, diagramatic representation of cross-section of a leaf and stomatal pores can be asked, so make sure you practice drawing them atleast once before the exam.
