Let the number of terms required to make the sum of 636 be n and common difference be d.
Given Arithmetic Progression : 9 , 17 , 25 ....
First term = a = 9
Second term = a + d = 17
Common difference = d = a + d - a = 17 - 9 = 8
From the indentities of arithmetic progressions, we know : -
, where
is the sum of first term to nth term of the AP, a is the first term, d is the common difference and n is the number of terms of AP.
In the given Question, sum of APs is 636.
Therefore,
= > 4n² + 5n - 636 = 0
= > 4n² + ( 53 - 48 )n - 636 = 0
= > 4n² + 53n - 48n - 636 = 0
= > 4n² - 48n + 53n - 636 = 0
= > 4n( n - 12 ) + 53( n - 12 ) = 0
= > ( n - 12 )( 4n + 53 ) = 0
By Zero Product Rule,
= > n - 12 = 0
= > n = 12
Hence,
Number of terms of the AP [ 9 , 17 , 25 ] which are required to make the sum of 636 is 12.

Federalism is needed to provide consistency between all the states and provinces of a country. If you have inconsistent rules across a nation, you will have many situations where different people act in an identical manner, but act illegally in one state, and legally in the next.
Businesses and foreign visitors want consistency in rules. They want to know what they have to comply with everywhere in a country. Differing state rules will discourage foreign investment and slow down an economy.
In the U.S., rules are much more consistent between states. Businesses know basically what to comply with across the country, and therefore, investment is consistent across the country.

Peggy said that she had never made Wanda cry. She thought Wanda is too dumb that she could not understand that one is making fun of her. Also, she said that she would never had teased Wanda if she had not told lie to everyone that she is having 100 beautiful dresses.

Though Maddie was caring about Wanda, Peggy was not. Wanda's absence didn't affected Peggy. She was really all right. She said lame excuses instead of admitting her mistake. She told Maddie that she never called her a foreigner or make fun of her. From het statements we can understand her cruel behavior towards Wanda.

Let speed of the boat in still water = x km/hr, and
Speed of the current = y km/hr
Downstream speed = (x+y) km/hr
Upstream speed = (x - y) km/hr

... (1)
... (2)
Putting
the equations become:
24u + 16v = 6
Or, 12u + 8v = 3... (3)
36u + 12v = 6
Or, 6u + 2v = 1... (4)
Multiplying (4) by 4, we get,
24u + 8v = 4… (5)
Subtracting (3) by (5), we get,
12u = 1
u =
Putting the value of u in (4), we get, v =

Thus, speed of the boat upstream = 4 km/hr
Speed of the boat downstream = 12 km/hr
