Question 1.Express as rupees using decimals:

(a) 5 paise

(b) 75 paise

(c) 20 paise

(d) 50 rupees 90 paise

(e) 725 paise

Answer:

(a) {tex}\because {/tex} 1 paisa = Rs.{tex}\frac{1}{{100}}{/tex}

(b) {tex}\because {/tex} 1 paisa = Rs.{tex}\frac{1}{{100}}{/tex}

{tex}\therefore {/tex} 5 paise = {tex}\frac{1}{{100}}{/tex} x 5 = Rs. 0.05

{tex}\therefore {/tex} 75 paise = {tex}\frac{1}{{100}}{/tex} x 5 = Rs. 0.75

(c) {tex}\because {/tex} 1 paisa = Rs.{tex}\frac{1}{{100}}{/tex}

(d) {tex}\because {/tex} 1 paisa = Rs.{tex}\frac{1}{{100}}{/tex}

{tex}\therefore {/tex} 20 paise = {tex}\frac{1}{{100}}{/tex} x 5 = Rs. 0.05

{tex}\therefore {/tex}Rs. 50 + 90 paise = 50 +{tex}\frac{1}{{100}}{/tex} x 90 = Rs. 50.90

(e) {tex}\because {/tex} 1 paisa = Rs.{tex}\frac{1}{{100}}{/tex}

{tex}\therefore {/tex} 725 paise = {tex}\frac{1}{{100}}{/tex} x 725 {tex} = \frac{{725}}{{100}}{/tex} = Rs. 7.25

Question 2.Express as meters using decimals:

(a) 15 cm

(b) 6 cm

(c) 2 m 45 cm

(d) 9 m 7 cm

(e) 419 cm

Answer:

(a) {tex}\because {/tex} 1 cm = {tex}\frac{1}{{100}}{/tex} m

(b) {tex}\because {/tex} 1 cm = {tex}\frac{1}{{100}}{/tex} m

{tex}\therefore {/tex} 15 cm = {tex}\frac{1}{{100}}{/tex} x 15 = 0.15 m

{tex}\therefore {/tex} 6 cm = {tex}\frac{1}{{100}}{/tex} x 6 = 0.06 m

(c) {tex}\because {/tex} 1 cm = {tex}\frac{1}{{100}}{/tex} m

(d) {tex}\because {/tex} 1 cm = {tex}\frac{1}{{100}}{/tex} m

{tex}\therefore {/tex} 2 m 45 cm = 2 + {tex}\frac{1}{{100}}{/tex} x 45 = 2.45 m

{tex}\therefore {/tex} 9 m 7 cm = 9 +{tex}\frac{1}{{100}}{/tex} x 7 = 9.07 m

(e) {tex}\because {/tex} 1 cm = {tex}\frac{1}{{100}}{/tex} m

{tex}\therefore {/tex} 419 cm = {tex}\frac{1}{{100}}{/tex} x 419 = {tex}\frac{{419}}{{100}} = {/tex} 4.19 m

Question 3.Express as cm using decimals:

(a) 5 mm

(b) 60 mm

(c) 164 mm

(d) 9 cm 8 mm

(e) 93 mm

Answer:

(a) {tex}\because {/tex} 1 mm = {tex}\frac{1}{{10}}{/tex} cm

(b) {tex}\because {/tex} 1 mm = {tex}\frac{1}{{10}}{/tex} cm

{tex}\therefore {/tex} 5 mm = {tex}\frac{1}{{10}}{/tex} x 5 = 0.5 cm

{tex}\therefore {/tex} 60 mm = {tex}\frac{1}{{10}}{/tex} x 60 = 6 cm

(c) {tex}\because {/tex} 1 mm = {tex}\frac{1}{{10}}{/tex} cm

(d) {tex}\because {/tex} 1 mm = {tex}\frac{1}{{10}}{/tex} cm

{tex}\therefore {/tex} 164 mm = {tex}\frac{1}{{10}}{/tex} x 164 = 16.4 cm

{tex}\therefore {/tex} 9 cm 8 mm = 9 + {tex}\frac{1}{{10}}{/tex} x 8 = 9 + 0.8 = 9.8 cm

(e) {tex}\because {/tex} 1 mm = {tex}\frac{1}{{10}}{/tex} cm

{tex}\therefore {/tex} 93 mm = {tex}\frac{1}{{10}}{/tex} x 93 = 9.3 cm

Answer:

(a) {tex}\because {/tex} 1 m = {tex}\frac{1}{{1000}}{/tex} km

(b) {tex}\because {/tex} 1 m = {tex}\frac{1}{{1000}}{/tex} km

{tex}\therefore {/tex} 8 m = {tex}\frac{1}{{1000}}{/tex} x 8 = 0.008 km

{tex}\therefore {/tex} 88 m = {tex}\frac{1}{{1000}}{/tex} x 88 = 0.088 km

(c) {tex}\because {/tex} 1 m = {tex}\frac{1}{{1000}}{/tex} km

(d) {tex}\because {/tex} 1 m = {tex}\frac{1}{{1000}}{/tex} km

{tex}\therefore {/tex} 8888 m = {tex}\frac{1}{{1000}}{/tex} x 8888 = 8.888 km

{tex}\therefore {/tex} 70 km 5 m = 70 + {tex}\frac{1}{{1000}}{/tex} x 5 = 70.005 km

Question 5.Express as kg using decimals:

(a) 2 g

(b) 100 g

(c) 3750 g

(d) 5 kg 8 g

(e) 26 kg 50 g

Answer:

(a) {tex}\because {/tex} 1 g = {tex}\frac{1}{{1000}}{/tex} kg

(b) {tex}\because {/tex} 1 g = {tex}\frac{1}{{1000}}{/tex} kg

{tex}\therefore {/tex} 2 g = {tex}\frac{1}{{1000}}{/tex} x 2 = 0.002 kg

{tex}\therefore {/tex} 100 g = {tex}\frac{1}{{1000}}{/tex} x 100 = 0.1 kg

(c) {tex}\because {/tex} 1 g = {tex}\frac{1}{{1000}}{/tex} kg

(d) {tex}\because {/tex} 1 g = {tex}\frac{1}{{1000}}{/tex} kg

{tex}\therefore {/tex} 3750 g = {tex}\frac{1}{{1000}}{/tex} x 3750 = 3.750 kg {tex}\therefore {/tex} 5 kg 8 g = 5 +{tex}\frac{1}{{1000}}{/tex} x 8 = 5.008 kg

(e) {tex}\because {/tex} 1 g = {tex}\frac{1}{{1000}}{/tex} kg

{tex}\therefore {/tex} 26 kg 50 g = 26 +{tex}\frac{1}{{1000}}{/tex} x 50 = 26.050 kg
