115 Egmore Chennai-600005 Tamilnadu 21 June 2021 The Editor,   The India Express     Tamilnadu Subject : Evils of street begging. Dear Sir,               Please permit me to point out the evils of street begging prevailing in free India. I shall feel grateful if you kindly publish my vies in the columns of your esteemed ‘daily’.               The evils of street begging are great threat to the social image of the country. Beggars freely road about in the streets of free India. They move from door to door and from shop to shop. They carry begging bowls, besmear their hair with ash and sing holy songs to excite the religious feelings of the people. They expose their bruised limbs to excite the pity of the on-lookers.               Begging leads to many ills. Beggars are parasites on the society. They have made begging their profession. They teach the tricks of the trade to their children. Able-bodied beggars must be made to work. Invalid beggars should be sent to public houses. Begging must be done away with. People should discourage begging by refusing to give them alms. Thanking you, Yours faithfully, Suzanne

Paragraph: The paragraph style contains any formatting: paragraphs, indents, tabs, font, text size, attributes — you name it. The paragraph style can format all the standard paragraph or character formats, part of both, or just one aspect of either. Character: The character style formats only characters, not paragraphs. Any formatting can be stuffed into a character style. Linked: The linked style is a combination style that can be applied to both paragraphs and individual characters. The difference depends on which text is selected when you apply the style. Table: The table style is applied to tables, to add lines and shading to the table cells’ contents. List: The list style is customized for presenting lists of information. The styles can include bullets, numbers, indentation, and other formats typical for the parts of a document that present lists.

Suppose the numerator of the fraction be x

Denominator of the fraction be y
{tex}\therefore{/tex} the fraction is {tex}\frac{x}{y}{/tex}
According to the question,

 The sum of the numerator and denominator of the fraction is 12.
{tex}\Rightarrow x + y = 12{/tex}
{tex}\Rightarrow{/tex} {tex}x + y - 12 = 0{/tex}
If the denominator is increased by 3, the fraction becomes {tex}\frac{1}{2}{/tex}.
{tex}\Rightarrow \frac{x}{{y + 3}} = \frac{1}{2}{/tex}
{tex}\Rightarrow{/tex} {tex}2x = (y + 3){/tex}
{tex}\Rightarrow{/tex} {tex}2x - y - 3 = 0{/tex}
So, we have two equations
{tex}x + y - 12 = 0{/tex}
{tex}2x - y - 3 = 0{/tex}
Here x and y are unknowns.
We have to solve the above equations for x and y.
By using cross-multiplication,
{tex}\Rightarrow \frac{x}{{(1) \times ( - 3) - ( - 1) \times - 12}}{/tex} {tex} = \frac{{ - y}}{{1 \times ( - 3) - 2 \times - 12}}{/tex} {tex}= \frac{1}{{1 \times ( - 1) - 2 \times (1)}}{/tex}
{tex}\Rightarrow \frac{x}{{ - 3 - 12}}{/tex} {tex}= \frac{{ - y}}{{ - 3 + 24}} = \frac{1}{{ - 1 - 2}}{/tex}
{tex}\Rightarrow \frac{x}{{ - 15}} = \frac{{ - y}}{{21}} = \frac{1}{{ - 3}}{/tex}
{tex}\Rightarrow \frac{x}{{15}} = \frac{y}{{21}} = \frac{1}{3}{/tex}
{tex}\Rightarrow x = \frac{{15}}{3},\;y = \frac{{21}}{3}{/tex}
{tex}\Rightarrow{/tex} {tex}x = 5, y = 7{/tex}
The fraction is {tex}\frac{5}{7}{/tex}

Consider quadratic polynomial
P(x) = 2x2 – 16x + 30.
Now, 2x2 – 16x + 30 = (2x – 6) (x – 3)
= 2 (x – 3) (x – 5)
The zeros of P(x) are 3 and 5.
Sum of the zeros = 3 + 5 = 8 = −(−16)2 = -[coefficient of xcoefficient of x2]

Product of the zeros = 3 × 5 = 15 = 302 = [constant term coefficient of x2]
So if ax2 + bx + c, a ≠ 0 is a quadratic polynomial and α, β are two zeros of polynomial then
α+β=−ba
αβ=ca
In general, it can be proved that if α, β, γ are the zeros of a cubic polynomial ax3 + bx2 + cx + d, then
α+β+γ=−ba
αβ+βγ+γα=ca
αβγ=−da
Note:  ba, ca and da  are meaningful because a ≠ 0.

Accumulation of resources which in turn divided the society into rich and poor
indiscriminate use of resources causing various global ecological crisis such as

  • global warming
  • depletion of the ozone layer
  • environmental pollution and land degradation

Resources are vital for human survival as well as for maintaining quality of life. It was believed that resources are free gifts of nature. As a result, human beings used them indiscriminately. This led to the following major problems:-

Depletion of resources for the greed of few. Accumulation of resources in a few hands which in turn, divided the society into rich and poor. Indiscriminate use of resources causing various global ecological crises such as global warming, depletion of the ozone layer, environmental pollution & land degradation.

Sayan Biswas 4 years, 3 months ago

The three major problems caused due to the indiscriminate utilization of natural resources are as follows; i. The indiscriminate use of resources led to Global Warming. ii. This divided the society into two halves i.e. rich and poor which led to the discrimination in the society. iii. This led to Ozone Layer depletion and Land Degradation.
