Water in a thick layer has multiply strata. Each strata consists of multiple layers of water molecules which have hydrogen bond between them.
Now as water is passing through each layer of water, there is refraction. Hence due to multiple layers of water, there seems to be decreases in the parallel rays.
Hence the transparency of the light decrease. Also there are many dissolved salts in water. They reflect the rays of light. Hence deep water seems to be translucent.
A thin layer of water is transparent but a thick layer of water is translucent as lateral shift depends on thickness of the object.

The constitution makers wanted to be so precise about the distribution of powers between the governments, that after providing for the three lists, they provided for residuary subjects. Matters which are not included in any of the three lists are known as residuary subjects and the right to make laws on these subjects is called residuary power. The central government (the Parliament) has been given rights to legislate on these subjects.Example of residuary subjects are software, hardware, etc.

It contains three lists:
- Union List: It includes subjects of national importance such as defence of the country, foreign affairs, banking, communications and currency. They are included in this list because we need a uniform policy on these matters throughout the country.
- State List: The list contains subjects of state and local importance such as police, trade, commerce, agriculture and irrigation. The state governments alone can make laws relating to the subjects mentioned in the state list.
- Concurrent List: Includes subjects of common interest to both, the Union government as well as the State government such as education, forests, trade unions, marriage, adoption and succession. Both the Union as well as State governments can make laws on the subjects mentioned in this list. If their laws conflict with each other, the law made by the Union government prevails.

Sustainable development means that a development should meet the needs of the present without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their needs.
The issue of sustainable development has emerged from rapid industrialisation of the world in the past century. It is felt that the economic growth and industrialisation have led to reckless exploitation of natural resources. Sustainability promotes a rational use of natural resources.
The earth has enough non-renewable resources to meet our present and future needs for development if we use them in an economic manner. But, if we use them recklessly in the greed of rapid economic development, our world may become a vast waste land.

Let take that 3 + 2√5 is a rational number.
So we can write this number as
3 + 2√5 = a/b
Here a and b are two co prime number and b is not equal to 0
Subtract 3 both sides we get
2√5 = a/b – 3
2√5 = (a-3b)/b
Now divide by 2 we get
√5 = (a-3b)/2b
Here a and b are integer so (a-3b)/2b is a rational number so √5 should be a rational number But √5 is a irrational number so it contradict the fact
Hence result is 3 + 2√5 is a irrational number

38220>196 we always divide greater number with smaller one.
Divide 38220 by 196 then we get quotient 195 and no remainder so we can write it as
38220 = 196 * 195 + 0
As there is no remainder so deviser 196 is our HCF

Acids react with most metals and a salt is produced. But unlike the reaction between acids and bases we don't get any water. Instead we get hydrogen gas.
This is the general word equation for the reaction:
metal + acid → salt + hydrogen
Salts
The salt produced depends upon the metal and the acid. Here are two examples:
zinc + sulphuric acid → zinc sulphate + hydrogen
magnesium + hydrochloric acid →magnesium chloride + hydrogen
It doesn't matter which metal or acid is used, if there is a reaction we always get hydrogen gas as well as the salt.
The test for hydrogen
There is a simple laboratory test to see if a gas is hydrogen. A lighted wooden splint goes pop if it is put into a test tube of hydrogen. This is because the flame ignites the hydrogen, which burns explosively to make a loud sound.
Acids and hydrogen
All acids contain hydrogen atoms. Apart from hydrochloric acid, this is not clear from their names, but you can tell they contain hydrogen from their chemical formulae. Remember that the chemical symbol for hydrogen is H

Types of Life Processes
- Nutrition : Nutrition is the process of taking food by an organism and the utilization of food for energy. This is a vital process, which helps living beings to obtain their energy from various sources.
- Transportation: Transportation and transportation system in plants and animals are entirely different. In animals, transportation is carried out through the circulatory system. This system includes the heart, blood, and blood carrying blood vessels.
- Metabolism : Metabolism is the chemical process in which different types of chemical reactions involved in controlling the living state of the cells in an organism. It is broadly classified into catabolism and anabolism.
- Respiration : Respiration includes the exchange of gases as well as the burning of food. Animals have a well defined respiratory system for respiration.
- Reproduction: The biological process of reproducing their own offspring determines the continuity of species, generation after generation. The basic types of reproduction are sexual and asexual reproduction.
- Excretion: Elimination of toxic waste substances from the body is called excretion. There are various modes of excretion and it generally differs with the different types of living species.

Sri Lanka has a diverse population. The Sinhalese community forms the majority of the population (74%) with Tamils (18%) who are mostly concentrated in the north and east of the island, forming the largest ethnic minority. Other communities include the Muslims. Among Tamils, there are two sub-groups. The Tamil natives of the country are called ‘Sri Lankan Tamils’ (13 %). The Tamils, who were brought as indentured labourers from India by British colonists to work on estate plantations are called the ‘Indian Origin Tamils’ (5%). Most of the Sinhala-speaking people are Buddhists, while most of the Tamils are Hindus or Muslims. There are about 7 per cent Christians, who are both Tamil and Sinhalese.
