Calvin cycle is also known as C3 cycle or light-independent or dark reaction of photosynthesis. However, it is most active during the day when NADPH and ATP are abundant. To build organic molecules, the plant cells use raw materials provided by the light reactions:

1. Energy: ATP provided by cyclic and noncyclic photophosphorylation, which drives the endergonic reactions.

2. Reducing power: NADPH provided by photosystem I is the source of hydrogen and the energetic electrons required to bind them to carbon atoms. Much of the light energy captured during photosynthesis ends up in the energy-rich C—H bonds of sugars.

Partial Equation Method

Equations are balanced by partial equation method when equations contain many reactants and products and hence cannot be balanced by the hit and trial method.

In this method the overall reaction is assumed to take place through two or more simpler reactions, which can be represented by partial equations.

The steps involved are:

  1. The given chemical equation is split into two or more partial equations.
  2. Each partial equation is separately balanced by the hit and trial method.
  3. These balanced partial equations are multiplied with suitable coefficients in order to exactly cancel out those common substances which do not appear in the overall chemical equations.
  4. The balanced partial equations so obtained, are added to arrive at the balanced chemical equation.

Function of medulla: Medulla directly controls many involuntary responses like sneezing and blinking of eye. It controls our overall major motor functions, or body movement. It carries out blood vessel dilation to increase or decrease oxygen flow and respond to heart function. Other functions include digestion, swallowing and vomiting to get rid of bacteria or pathogens that could harm us.
Function of cerebellum: The cerebellum receives information from the sensory systems, the spinal cord and other parts of the brain and regulates the motor movements. It controls the voluntary movements such as posture, balance, coordination, and speech to maintain a smooth and balanced muscular activity.
