Saliva is a fluid which is secreted by the salivary glands. It helps in digestion of food by following Ways.
- Saliva contains a digestive enzyme called salivary amylase, which converts carbohydrates in to maltose sugars.
- It cleans the mouth cavity and tends to destroy germs that cause teeth decay. It contains lysozomes which help in destroying the bacteria.
- It moistens and lubricates food which again helps in swallowing.
- It acts as solvent, dissolving some food particles to stimulate taste buds of the tongue.

2.There were rumours that a harsh peace treaty was going to be imposed on the Ottoman emperor—the spiritual head of the Islamic world—the Khalifa.
3.To defend the Khalifa’s temporal powers, a Khilafat Committee was formed in Bombay in March 1919.
4.A young generation of Muslim leaders like the Ali brothers, Muhammad Ali and Shaukat Ali, began discussing with Mahatma Gandhi about the possibility of a united mass action on the
issue.
5.Gandhij i saw this as .an opportunity to bring Muslims under the umbrella of a unified movement called ‘Khilafat and Non-cooperation Movement’.

The Khilafat Non-Cooperation Movement was launched by the Indian national Congress in 1920 under the leadership of Gandhi. Main causes for launching the Non-cooperation Movement were:
- The treatment meted out by the British government to the Caliph of Turkey disturbed the Indian Muslims as he was seen as their religious head. As a result, they started the Khilafat Movement.
- Gandhi saw this as an opportunity to achieve the much desired Hindu-Muslim unity. He advised the Khilafat Committee to adopt a policy of non-cooperation with the British government. The Khilafat leaders agreed and campaigned accordingly. Thus, the Khilafat Movement furthered the cause of the Non-cooperation Movement.
- The Rowlatt Act of 1919 authorised the British government to arrest and imprison any person without trial and convict him in a court. Also, the Act implied severe restrictions on movements of individuals and suspension of the Right of Habeas Corpus. This was seen as a major breach of trust by Indians who were expecting the British to deliver on their promise of providing self-government. Gandhi appealed to the Viceroy to withhold his consent to the Act but his plea fell on deaf ears.
- The Jalianwala Bagh massacre and the subsequent British reaction to it was a watershed event in the Indian freedom struggle. It led to a huge furor all over the country and hardened the Congress resolve to attain self government.
- The Rowlatt satyagraha had been a widespread movement, it was still limited mostly to cities and towns. Gandhi now felt the need to launch a more broad-based movement in India which finally resulted in the launching of the Non Cooperation movement.

When a uniform conductor (resistor) of length L is connected to a battery (voltage V) and is given a potential difference across its ends, there is an electric (electrostatic) field E created through the conductor. Then E = V / L.
Due to this potential gradient and field intensity, the charged particles - free electrons (in the conductor) ie., from the conduction band in the atoms - free themselves from atoms and start travelling towards the positive terminal of the battery. Electrons have a charge equal to e. they have a mass = m.
The electrons accelerate with acceleration a = e E / m, due to the force = e E on them. Due to collisions of electrons with one another , they lose a lot of momentum and energy (to heat) in each collision. But again they accelerate. They attain a net uniform and steady speed along the length of the conductor from negative terminal towards the positive terminal of the battery. This steady speed is called drift speed.
Thus, the movement of particles which move slowly along the medium, under the influence of a field and force is called drift. The speed is called drift speed.

The British ruled India to promote their own interests. In doing so they often subordinate Indian welfare to British gain. The Indians realized gradually that their interests were being sacrificed to those of British interests. This clash of interests was the root cause of the rise of the nationalist movement. In the 20th century new forms of nationalism emerged. Hitler based German nationalism on racial purity, authoritarian rule, and Germany 's mythic pre-Christian past. After the Second World War, most of the new forms of nationalism were driven by independence movements in the wake of de-colonization.
