Biological magnification refers to the process of increase in the concentration of a toxic chemical with increasing trophic level in a food chain.  Harmful or poisonous substance such as DDT sprinkled to kill pests on plants enter the food chain. The plants absorb these harmful chemicals from soil along with water and minerals. They enter the food chain at producer level and then transfers to the next trophic level. The tertiary consumers get more higher levels of these chemicals.

Because copper is less reactive than Hydrogen , so it is unable to displace Hydrogen from HCl Hence no reaction occurs

Lucifer ? Morningstar? 5 years, 9 months ago

Because Copper is less reactive than hydrogen. So, it can't react with hydrogen

Gaurav Seth 5 years, 9 months ago

Generally the reaction of a metal with an acid is written as

Metal + acid ------> Metal salt + hydrogen gas

Now this reaction is not true for all the metals. Only those metals which are more reactive than hydrogen will liberate hydrogen from the acid and form the corresponding metal salt. These metals are placed above hydrogen in the reactivity series. As copper is less reactive than hydrogen, therefore it will not liberate hydrogen gas from the acids like HCl, HNO3, H2SO4 etc.

But sulphuric acid is a strong oxidising agent, therefore it will oxidise copper metal to Cu2+ ion. However, no hydrogen gas will be formed, only copper metal will be oxidised here. On the other hand, HCl is not that strong oxidising agent, in fact its use as an oxidising agent is not too well known. Hence it does not react with copper metal at all.

Plant hormones are chemical organic substances that help to bring about control and coordination in plants

Yogita Ingle 5 years, 9 months ago

Plant hormones are simple organic substances transported through xylem, phloem or by diffusion. They are produced in one part of the plant and transported to the other. No specific organs are involved in the synthesis of the plant hormones.

Examples: Auxins, cytokinins, ethylene, gibberellins.

Lucifer?? Morningstar?? 5 years, 9 months ago

Plant hormones are chemicals plants use for communication, coordination, and development between their many cells. Like animals, plants rely on these chemical signals to direct the expression of DNA and the operations of the cell

Sometimes parents have to take strict actions against their children to help them conquer some of their fears. Parents learn from experiences and wish that their children would do the same. An example, from the first flight is that there was as seagull who was afraid of flying. His younger siblings would fly fearlessly and he refused to fly due to his fear. His parents used hunger as a driving factor by threatening to starve him. Since, obviously survival in this world is the key, his starvation got the best of him and he dove at a piece of fish which his mother. He forgot the fear and actually flew in the air. This story had a moral that sometimes the fear gets to you and you must conquer it, for it is all in your head. All parental acts are indeed for the betterment for their children. In this chapter the acts of parents were not to make the child suffer but to use starvation as a motivating factor to help him nudge towards conquering his fears. Which helped him and he overcame his weakness.

Amoeba takes in food using temporary finger-like extensions of the cell surface which fuse over the food particle forming a food-vacuole. Inside the food vacuole, complex substances are broken down into simpler ones which then diffuse into the cytoplasm. The remaining undigested material is moved to the surface of the cell and thrown out. The complete phagocytosis process includes intake, digestion , absorption, assimilation, and egestion process.

Heterocrine glands are those glands that possess both exocrine ( which release chemical substances through ducts) as well as endocrine parts ( which release chemical substances directly into bloodstream or body parts).

Two examples of heterocrine glands are-

1) Pancreas ( as they perform both exocrine and endocrine function)

They release insulin and glucagon into bloodstream ( endocrine function) and release digestive enzymes through ducts in the digestive tract ( exocrine function).

2) Ovary : It releases steroid hormones ( estrogen and progesteron) into bloodstream and also performs exocrine function by producing ova into duct.
