The process of photosynthesis occurs in two stages:
Light-dependent reaction or light reaction:
- Photosynthesis begins with the light reaction which is carried out only during the day in the presence of sunlight. In plants, the light-dependent reaction takes place in the thylakoid membranes of chloroplasts.
- The Grana, membrane-bound sacs like structures present inside the thylakoid functions by gathering light and is called photosystems.
- These photosystems have large complexes of pigment and proteins molecules present within the plant cells, which play the primary role during the process of light reactions of photosynthesis.
The chemical equation in the light reaction of photosynthesis can be reduced to:
2H2O + 2NADP+ + 3ADP + 3Pi → O2 + 2NADPH + 3ATP
Light independent reaction or dark reaction
- Dark reaction is also called carbon-fixing reaction.
- It is a light-independent process in which sugar molecules are formed from the water and carbon dioxide molecules.
- The dark reaction occurs in the stroma of the chloroplast where they utilize the NADPH and ATP products of the light reaction.
- 3CO2 + 6 NADPH + 5H2O + 9ATP → G3P + 2H+ + 6 NADP+ + 9 ADP + 8 Pi

During photosynthesis, plants trap light energy with their leaves. Plants use the energy of the sun to change water and carbon dioxide into a sugar called glucose. Photosynthesis is the process plants and some algae use to convert light energy to chemical energy stored as sugar within chloroplasts -- the energy factories found in plant cells. ... Chloroplasts are full of chlorophyll, a green pigment key to photosynthesis, which helps the plant absorb light.

At the molecular level, salt dissolves in water due to electrical charges and due to the fact that both water and salt compounds are polar, with positive and negative charges on opposite sides in the molecule. The bonds in salt compounds are called ionic because they both have an electrical charge—the chloride ion is negatively charged and the sodium ion is positively charged. Likewise, a water molecule is ionic in nature, but the bond is called covalent, with two hydrogen atoms both situating themselves with their positive charge on one side of the oxygen atom, which has a negative charge. When salt is mixed with water, the salt dissolves because the covalent bonds of water are stronger than the ionic bonds in the salt molecules.
The positively-charged side of the water molecules are attracted to the negatively-charged chloride ions and the negatively-charged side of the water molecules are attracted to the positively-charged sodium ions. Essentially, a tug-of-war ensues with the water molecules winning the match. Water molecules pull the sodium and chloride ions apart, breaking the ionic bond that held them together. After the salt compounds are pulled apart, the sodium and chloride atoms are surrounded by water molecules, as this diagram shows. Once this happens, the salt is dissolved, resulting in a homogeneous solution.

- A typical SHG can have 15-20 members generally belonging to the same village.
- The main motive of SHG's is to pool the savings of the poor people. Saving varies from Rs 25to Rs 100 depending on the economic condition.
- The SHG's provide loans to their members at a reasonable rate.
- After a year or 2. If the group is regular in savings it becomes eligible for bank loans.
- Any case of non-repayment of loans by any one member is followed up seriously by other members in the group and because of this feature the commercial banks don't hesitate to give loans to these groups.
- This group helps the borrowers to overcome the problem of lack of collateral.
- This groups are being organized by women and this helps them to become financially self-reliant.
- This group provides a platform to discuss variety of social issues lite health domestic violence, etc.

The formation of slaked lime (calcium hydroxide, Ca(OH)2) when water is added to lime (CaO) is exothermic. CaO(s) + H2O (l) → Ca(OH)2(s) This reaction occurs when water is added to dry portland cement to make concrete, and heat evolution of energy as heat is evident because the mixture becomes warm.
Calcium is a silvery-white metal; it is relatively soft, but much harder than sodium metal. Calcium is a member of the alkaline-earth metals (Group II on the periodic table); these metals react vigorously with water, although not as violently as the Group I metals such as sodium or potassium:
Ca(s) + 2H2O(l) ——> Ca(OH)2(aq) + H2(g)
