An accountable government is answerable to its citizens. It is responsible for all the decisions it makes on behalf of its citizens.

Government accountability means that public officials elected and un-elected have an obligation to explain their decisions and actions to the citizens. Government accountability is achieved through the use of a variety of mechanisms political, legal, and administrative designed to prevent corruption and ensure that public officials remain answerable and accessible to the people they serve. In the absence of such mechanisms, corruption may thrive.

Demerits of democracy:

  • Democracy is all about political competition and power play. There is no scope for morality.
  • Consultation in a democracy from many people leads to delays.
  • Not knowing the best interest of the people by the elected leaders leads to bad decisions.
  • Democracy leads to corruption for it is based on electoral competition.

Corruption is the misuse of public power (by elected politician or appointed civil servant) for private gain.

In order to ensure that not ony public corruption but also private corruption between individuals and businesses could be covered by the same simple definition: Corruption is the misuse of entrusted power (by heritage, education, marriage, election, appointment or whatever else) for private gain.

Dielectric constant is the ratio of the permittivity of a substance to the permittivity of free space.

It is an expression of the extent to which a material concentrates electric flux.

 As the dielectric constant increases, the electric flux density increases, if all other factors remain unchanged.

This enables objects of a given size, such as sets of metal plates separated by material of high dielecric constant,

to hold their electric charge for long periods of time,and/or to hold large quantities of charge.

Materials with high dielectric constants are useful in the manufacture of high-value capacitors.

Based on their origin, resources can be classified into abiotic or biotic.

Biotic Resources:  These are obtained from biosphere and have life such as human beings, flora and fauna, fisheries,  livestock, etc.

Abiotic Resources: All those things which are composed of non-living things are called abiotic resources. For example, sunlight, temperature, minerals, etc.

On comparing the ratios a1/a2 , b1/b2  and c1/c2, find out whether the lines representing the following pairs of linear equations intersect at a point, are parallel or coincident:
Use this table for the solution

S.N.

Compare the Ratio

Graphic representation

Algebraic interpretation

Linear equations

1

Intersection lines at one point

Exactly one solution or
unique solution

Consistent

2

Coincident line

Infinity solution or many solutions

 Dependent and consistent

3

Parallel lines

No solution

Inconsistent

Solution: (i)

5x – 4y + 8         = 0

7x + 6y – 9         = 0
Compare the equation with

We get
a1 = 5,            b1       = -4,               and c1 = 8
a2 =7               b2       =6                    and c2 = -9

Hence

So both are Intersecting lines at one point
(ii)9x + 3y + 12            = 0
18x + 6y + 24           = 0
Compare the equation with

We get
a1 = 9,           b1       = 3,                 and c1 = 12
a2 =18          b2        =6,                   and c2 = 24

Hence

So both lines are coincident

(iii)6x – 3y + 10       = 0
2x – y + 9            = 0
Compare the equation with

We get
a1 = 6,            b1       =- 3,               and c1 = 10
a2 =2              b2        =-1,                 and c2 = 9

Hence

So both lines are parallel

It means that the light is becoming slower at the rate of 2.42 at passing through the diamond

Preeti Sharma 5 years, 2 months ago

It means, Speed of light in air =speed of light in diamond ×2.42 i.e. something is multiplied to the speed of light in diamond to become equal to the speed of light in air.Therefore speed of light in diamond is lesser than speed of light in air. Hence the diamond is denser than air. If we incidents a ray from air to diamond the refractive ray will bend towards the normal of that point.

How to express in decimal form without actual division

Yogita Ingle 5 years, 2 months ago

1) A rational number is terminating if and only if the denominator of the rational number is of the form 2ᵃ or 5ᵇ or 2ᵃ.5ᵇ

2) In the given fraction 17/625

  • 17/625 can be written as 17/(5×5×5×5)
  • 17/5⁴

As the denominator has 5⁴ so the term is terminating.

Let us assume √2 is rational number.
a rational number can be written into he form of p/q
√2=p/q
p=√2q
Squaring on both sides
p²=2q²__________(1)
.·.2 divides p² then 2 also divides p
.·.p is an even number
Let p=2a (definition of even number,'a' is positive integer)
Put p=2a in eq (1)
p²=2q²
(2a)²=2q²
4a²=2q²
q²=2a²
.·.2 divides q² then 2 also divides q
Both p and q have 2 as common factor.
But this contradicts the fact that p and q are co primes or integers.
Our supposition is false
.·.√2 is an irrational number.

To find the sum of squares, we use the formula of (n+1)³ as shown in the picture.

In the proof, I have used one result directly:

1 + 2 + 3 + ... + n = n(n+1)/2

Proof:
Given series is an A.P. with
First term = 1
Last term = n
Number of terms = n

Sum = n/2 [First term + Last Term]
So, Sum = n/2 [1 + n]
So, Sum = n(n+1)/2

That is, 1 + 2 + 3 + ... + n = n(n+1)/2

There are four basic rules of logarithms as given below:-

  1. Logb (mn)= logb m + logb n. In this rule, the multiplication of two logarithmic values is equal to the addition of their individual logarithms.

          For example- log( 2y ) = log(2) + log(y)

  1. Logb (m/n)= logb m – logb This is called as division rule. Here the division of two logarithmic values is equal to the difference of each logarithm.

         For example, log( 2/ y ) = log(2) -log(y)

  1. Logb (mn) = n logb m

         This is the exponential rule of logarithms. The logarithm of m with a rational exponent is equal to the exponent times its logarithm.

  1.  Logm = logm/ loga b

Impact of the French Revolution:

  1. The French Revolution is significant for the fact that it marked the end of the institution of absolute monarchy in France and saw the establishment of a Republic.
  2. Liberty, Equality and Fraternity, which had become the guiding principles of the French Revolution, also became the foundational values of the French Republic.
  3. The Revolution led to the establishment of a democratic government for the first time in Europe.
  4. Feudalism as an institution was buried by the Revolution, and the Church and the clergy were brought under State control.
  5. It led to the eventual rise of Napoleon Bonaparte as the Emperor of France.
  6. It also signified the end of ancient beliefs and political systems and a qualified acceptance of the new era of Industrial Revolution.
  7. It popularised the idea of nationalism. It also led to the eventual development of the Welfare State.
  8. The success of the French Revolution inspired people all over the world, and especially in Europe. Mobilised by the spirit of nationalism and the ideas of liberty, equality and fraternity, people rose in revolt against the absolutist autocratic State and strived to install democracy as the new form of Government.

It was a red letter day in the history of South Africa because on this day the despicable policy of apartheid had been officially defeated. It was the grand occasion of swearing in of Nelson Mandela as the President of South Africa. It was a historical moment as he was the first Black President to be elected after three centuries. His party African National Congress won 252 of the 400 seats in the first democratic elections of South Africa’s history.
