After introducing two levels of mathematics papers for class 10 students, CBSE will now offer applied mathematics as an academic elective at the senior secondary level for those who do not want to take it up for higher studies or won't opt for engineering which require a broader understanding of the subject.

The elective subject aimed at developing an understanding of basic mathematical and statistical tools and their applications in the field of commerce and social science, will be offered as elective for class 11students from 2020 academic session and ultimately for class 12 students from the year after.

Students who had taken up basic mathematics in class 10 will be allowed to opt for applied mathematics at senior secondary level.

"Mathematics is widely used in higher studies — in the field of Economics, Commerce, Social Sciences and many others. It has been observed that the existing syllabus of mathematics aligns well with science subjects, but not so much with commerce or social science-based subjects in university education. Keeping this in mind, one more elective course in mathematics syllabus will be offered for senior secondary classes with an aim to provide students relevant experience in mathematics which can be used in the fields other than physical sciences," the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) said in an official notification. According to CBSE officials, a course by this name was earlier designed as a skill subject.

The taxi charges in a city consist of a fixed charge together with the charge for the distance covered. For a distance of 10 km, the charge paid is Rs 105 and for a journey of 15 km, the charge paid is Rs 155. What are the fixed charges and the charge per km? How much does a person have to pay for travelling a distance of 25 km?

Solution:

Let the fixed charge be Rs x and per km charge be Rs y.

According to the question,

x + 10y = 105 …………….. (1)

x + 15y = 155 …………….. (2)

From (1), we get x = 105 – 10y ………………. (3)

Substituting the value of x in (2), we get

105 – 10y + 15y = 155

5y = 50

y = 10 …………….. (4)

Putting the value of y in (3), we get

x = 105 – 10 × 10 = 5

Hence, fixed charge is Rs 5 and per km charge = Rs 10

Charge for 25 km = x + 25y = 5 + 250 = Rs 255

The large farmer almost certainly has a ton of debt and is caught in the commodity treadmill. As they produce more, they merely lose less, holding on for the year when commodity prices are up and they can scrape a profit.

A small farmer almost certainly has more debt than the average household, and is caught in the scaling-up treadmill. As they produce more, they become more of a price taker, and have to take on more debt to scale.

The economics of farming don’t make it easy for either one.

(iv) For a growing population, this poses a serious challenge.
(v) Agriculture which provides livelihood for more than 60 percent of its population, needs some serious technical and institutional reforms.

Primitive subsistense farming and intensive subsistence farming

Yogita Ingle 5 years, 1 month ago

1. Primitive subsistence farming :

  • It is practiced on small patches of land with the help of primitive tools like hoe, dao and digging sticks.
  • It depends upon monsoon, natural fertility of the soil and suitability of other environmental conditions to the crops grown.
  • It is also called “slash and burn” cultivation

2. Intensive subsistence farming :

  • This type of farming is practiced in areas of high population pressure on land.
  • It is done where high doses of biochemical inputs and irrigation are used for obtaining higher production.

3. Commercial farming :

  • The main characteristic of this type of farming is the use of higher doses of modern inputs e.g., high yielding variety (HYV) seeds, chemical fertilizers, insecticides and pesticides in order to obtain productivity.
  • The degree of commercialization varies from region to region.
  • For example: Rice is a commercial crop on Punjab and Haryana, but in Orissa, it is a
    subsistence crop.

In 1815, the representatives of the European powers - Britain, Russia, Prussia and Austria wanted to establish long-lasting peace and stability after they defeated Napoleon. Thus, they drew up the Treaty of Vienna of 1815 to undo most of the changes brought about during the Napoleonic wars and create a new conservative order in Europe. According to this treaty: The Bourbon dynasty was brought back to power and France lost the territories it had annexed under Napoleon. To prevent French evasion, a series of states were set up within the boundaries of France. This led to the setting up of the kingdom of the Netherlands (inclusive of Belgium) in the north and the kingdom of Genoa (added to Piedmont) in the south. Prussia was given important new territories on its western frontiers, while Austria was given control of northern Italy. However, Napoleon’s German confederation of 39 states was left untouched. In the east, Russia was given part of Poland while Prussia was given a portion of Saxony. The treaty strengthened the monarchy. As a result, people rose in revolt against the monarchy in many parts of Europe.

Napoleon was defeated in 1815 by collective European powers i.e. Britain, Russia, Prussia, and Austria. The representatives of European powers drew up the Treaty of Vienna at a congress hosted by Austrian Chancellor Duke Metternich with the objective of undoing the changes that had come about the Europe during the Napoleonic wars. Following changes were brought about in Europe by this treaty:

• The Bourbon dynasty that was destroyed during the French Revolution was restored. French lost the territories it has annexed under Napoleon.
• A series of states were set up on the boundaries of France to prevent French expansion in future.
• The Netherlands which included Belgium was set up in the north. Genoa was added to Piedmont in the south.
• Prussia was given important new territories on its western frontiers. Austria was given control of northern Italy.
• The German confederation of 39 states set up by Napoleon was left untouched. Russia was given part of Poland and Prussia was given part of Saxony.
• Monarchy was restored and a new conservative order was created in Europe.

Demerits of Mendeleev Periodic Table

  • He was unable to locate hydrogen in the periodic table.
  • Increase in atomic mass was not regular while moving from one element to another. Hence, the number of elements yet to be discovered was not predictable.
  • Later on, isotopes of elements were found which violated Mendeleev’s periodic law.

Malaika Sharma 5 years, 1 month ago

1.Position of Hydrogen:Mendeleev placed hydrogen in the column of alkali metals but it is a non-metal.So position of hydrogen was not justified. 2.Position of Isotopes:Mendeleev's table was based on atomic mass but there was no place for isotopes which have same atomic no.but different mass no. 3.Wrong Order of Masses:Some elements like Ca-Ni,V-Cr,Al-Si were found to be arranged in the wrong order of their masses.

The Rowlatt Act was passed by the British government to increase their grip on power over the common folk. This law was passed in March 1919 by the Imperial Legislative Council which gave them the power to arrest any person without any trial. To abolish this act, Gandhi and the other leaders called for a Hartal (suspension of work) to show Indians’ objection with this rule.

A bus topology consists of a main run of cable with a terminator at each end. All nodes like workstations, printers, laptops, servers etc., are connected to the linear cable. The terminator is used to absorb the signal when the signal reaches the end, preventing signal bounce. When using bus topology, when a computer sends out a signal, the signal travels the cable length in both directions from the sending computer. When the signal reaches the end of the cable length, it bounces back and returns in the direction it came from. This is known as signal bounce. Signal bounce may create problems in the computer network, because if another signal is sent on the cable at the same time, the two signals will collide. Collisions in a computer network can drastically reduce the performance of the computer network.

Gaurav Seth 5 years, 1 month ago

A bus topology consists of a single cable with the terminator at each end. All present nodes are connected to the single cable. There is no limit to the no: of nodes that can be attached to this network, but the no: of connected nodes can actually affect the performance of the network.

In a bus topology, one of the nodes acts as the server and transmits the data from one end to the other in a single direction. When the data reaches the extreme end, the terminator removes the data from the line.

let first term of Ap is a and common difference is d

use formula

tn=a+(n-1) d

now

t11 = a + (11-1)

d = a + 10d = 38

same way

t16 = a + 15d =73

solve this equation then

a= -32 and d= 7

now t31 = a+30d

= -32 + 210 = 178
