Install NowCBSE envisages that all language skills need to be integrated into the English language curriculum at schools. Speaking and listening should be fostered in children to equip them with better communication skills. At the onset it proposes to introduce formal testing of speaking and listening skills in the form of Formative Assessments (FAs) in English at Secondary and Senior Secondary levels from the academic session 2012-13.
This test will be applicable for classes 9th to 11th only. For this purpose CBSE plans to develop a cohort of oral examiners’ to be involved in testing of speaking and listening skills in English at the aforesaid levels. It is looking for suitably qualified and experienced individuals to join the team of Oral Examiners.
However, since no internal assessments are done in Class XII, and evaluation takes place externally by the board, the regional director today said the formal test would not be conducted in Class XII.
“So far, the board has not introduced formative assessment in Class XII and the evaluation for all the subjects take place externally. This year, too, formal testing of English proficiency will not be introduced in Class XII until there is a change in the evaluation pattern for the class,” CBSE Regional Director RJ Khanderao said.
