1. सरल वाक्य- नाम से ज्ञात होता है जो वाक्य छोटा हो जिसमें एक उद्देश्य और एक विधेय हो वह सरल वाक्य होता है।
जैसे- राम ने तीर मारा।
इस वाक्य में राम ने 'उद्देश्य' है और तीर मारा 'विधेय' है। एक अन्य उदाहरण देखिए
श्रेया कक्षा में प्रथम आई है।
इस वाक्य में श्रेया 'उद्देश्य' है और 'कक्षा में प्रथम आई है'विधेय है।
2. संयुक्त वाक्य- इस वाक्य में दो वाक्य समानता के आधार पर समानाधिकरण समुच्चयबोधकों (और, परंतु, एवं तथा, किंतु, वरना, या, अत: लेकिन बल्कि) से आपस में जुड़े होते हैं। उदाहरण के लिए-
हमने कल दाल, भात और रोटी बनाई थी।
इस वाक्य में और अव्यय शब्द से दो वाक्य आपस में जुड़े हुए हैं। अत: यह संयुक्त वाक्य है।
