Divide the polynomial u(x) = 9x4 - 4x2 + 4 by the polynomial v(x) = 3x2 + x - 1 by using long division method, we get

Clearly, quotient q(x) = 3x2 - x and remainder r(x) = -x + 4.
Also, v(x) q(x) + r(x) = (3x2 + x - 1) (3x2 - x) + (-x + 4)
= 9x4 + 3x3 - 3x2 - 3x3 - x2 + x - x + 4
= 9x4 + 0x3 - 4x2 + 0x + 4
= 9x4 - 4x2 + 4
i.e. u(x) = v(x) q(x) + r(x) = 9x4 - 4x2 + 4 = u(x)
or, Dividend = Quotient {tex}\times{/tex} Divisor + Remainder

Sp = Sq
{tex} \Rightarrow \frac{p}{2}\left[ {2a + (p - 1)d} \right] = \frac{q}{2}\left[ {2a + (q - 1)d} \right]{/tex}
{tex} \Rightarrow p\left[ {2a + pd - d} \right] = q\left[ {2a + qd - d} \right]{/tex}
{tex} \Rightarrow {/tex} 2ap + p2d - pd = 2aq + q2d - qd
{tex} \Rightarrow {/tex} 2a (p - q) + (p2 - q2)d - (p - q)d = 0
{tex} \Rightarrow {/tex} 2a (p - q) + (p + q) (p - q)d - (p - q)d = 0
{tex} \Rightarrow {/tex} (p - q) [2a + (p + q - 1)d] = 0
{tex} \Rightarrow {/tex} Sp+q = 0

put x = -8 in {tex}3x^2 + 5x - 4k = 0{/tex}
{tex}3(-8)^2 + 5(-8)-4k = 0 {/tex}
{tex}3(-8)^2 + 5(-8) - 4 k = 0{/tex}
192 - 40 - 4k = 0
152 = 4k
{tex}\Rightarrow{/tex} k = 28
{tex}\therefore{/tex} k = 28

Given equation,
x^2 + 7x + k = 0 , given root -2
Substituting value of x = -2 in the equation
4 - 14 + k = 0
k = 10
Now the equation is x^2 +7 x + 10 = 0
Or x^2 + 2x + 5x + 10
= x(x + 2) + 5( x + 2)
= (x + 5)(x + 2)
x= -5, -2
,so, other value of x is -5
