Osmosis is movement of water molecules from a region of higher concentration to lower through a semi permeable membrane. It can only take place in liquid medium. It requires semipermeable membrane. eg- absorption of water by plant roots Diffusion is spontaneous movement from region of higher concentration to lower . It can take place in any medium i.e , liquid gas... . It doesn't require semipermeable membrane. Eg- diffusion of oxygen into cells
