Phylum Chordata is divided into 2 types- 1. Acraniate/protochordata. 2. Craniate/euchordata And then craniate divided into sub phylum -VERTEBRATES Hence, all vertebrates are chordata but all chordates are not vertebrates.

The chordata have presence of single hollow dorsal notochord..and vertebrates have notochord in their earlier stages but later on this get replaced by vertebral column ...so all vertebrate are chordata ...but there are few vertebrate which donot posses vertebral column like vertebrate thats why all chordata are not vertebrates
