The poem my mother at sixty six by kamla das brings out a fascinating fact of life which everyone has to face and also she highlights the childhood fear of every children. In the poem, poet is driving to cochin from her parents house, further she describes the appearance of her mother who was taking a nap beside her, her face was ashwn like that of a corpse. Moreover, she added that it was her childhood fear to loose her mother and now her mother is as old as she looked. To bring herself out of these traumatized thoughts she looked outside the window she described that the trees were sprinting and she addressed trees as young in contrast to her mother who is 66 years old and the children were coming out of their homes in era of happiness. This indicates the beginning of new life. And she gets rid off pain but after the security check when poet looked at her again she compared her to a late winters moon which is dull and covered by fog and mist ahich does means that her mother has lost the essence of life, the brightness, and the dignity or joy of life. Poet is being reminded of her pain of loosing her mother. So, to hide her pain she just smiled and said "see you soon amma". Answer by : Shilpi bhadoriya. CBS public school. Agra UP.
