Even after millions of rupees being allocated for the improvement of sports and games in the country, our ranking in the international arena is declining. Millions of sportspersons who have the ability to bring laurels to the country do not have the right infrastructure, coaches, and facilities to support them. We need to encourage talent at the local level by improving the facilities at the local level, i.e., in schools and clubs so that young people can get enough training and enter the national level with expertise. This will ensure a large pool of young talented sports-persons who can be groomed. This is a matter of concern and I would request you to publish my opinion in your esteemed newspaper and help draw the attention of the sports ministry as well as the general public towards this issue. Thanking you. Yours truly, Girish Pathak Akash Public School, Taj Road, Agra - 282004 14th November, 20XX The Editor, The Times of India, New Delhi 110002 Sir, Subject: Deteriorating conditions of National Parks Through the columns of your esteemed newspaper, I want to draw the attention of the concerned authorities to take action against tourists who abuse the facilities provided in National Parks, endangering the environment there. Recently our school organised a 3-day trip to the Corbett National Park for the students who were members of the school’s Environment Club. We were appalled to find that tourists were throwing litter all over the park, instead of using the dustbins provided for the same. Further, they were offering the animals cooked and spicy food to eat, inspite of knowing that offering food to the animals in the park is strictly prohibited. Some of them were also throwing stones at small animals and running their vehicles behind them. Such activities of tourists should be stopped by increasing the number of forest guards who are empowered to impose fines on such menacing tourists if they find them indulging in such notorious practices. Further, some CCTV cameras should be installed in places more frequented by tourists, to monitor any unfair practices. I hope this letter will find a suitable space in your newspaper and manage to elicit suitable action from the park management so that the purpose of national parks, of providing a home and safeguarding animals is not lost. Yours sincerely, Navtej, Secretary, Environment Club To practice more questions & prepare well for exams, download myCBSEguide App. It provides complete study material for CBSE, NCERT, JEE (main), NEET-UG and NDA exams. 147, Sector 10 Rohini Delhi-110085 23 July 2019 The Editor The Times of India Bahadur Shah Zafar Marg Delhi-110002 Sub: Discrimination against the girl child Sir, With deep concern, I write to you hoping to remove the discrimination that exists in our society against the girl child. It is incorrect to think that girl abuse exists only among rural illiterate people. I was dismayed to find evidence of this unjust practice even among educated, prosperous urban families. Daughters are not given quality food. Milk, eggs, fruit, etc. are reserved for the boys. Girls are sent to schools which have no claim to any quality education or facilities whereas the boys are sent to the most exclusive 'public schools’. After school, the daughters stay at home and assist in housework, whereas the boys go out to play, meet friends or to movies and shows. Needless to say that girls have all kinds of restrictions on their movement regarding meeting friends, spending leisure. No argument can justify this injustice. Girls have the same talent, creativity and intelligence. They have more sensibility, love and affection. We should open our minds, have positive thinking and be fair to our daughters. Yours faithfully, Aruna Verma. 13, WEA Karol Bagh New Delhi-110005 27th May, 20XX The Editor The Times of India New Delhi Subject: Ill-treatment with stray dogs Sir, Through the columns of your esteemed newspaper, I want to draw the attention of civil society and the concerned authorities towards the ill-treatment that is meted out to the stray dogs by the hands of callous and indifferent people. Dogs are considered to be the most loyal animals to the human being. Their presence at our home makes us feel safe and secure. They are loved, adored and taken care of like the members of our family. But not all dogs get this treatment. There are people who do not like dogs when it does not have a home. Stray dogs are treated badly by people. These dogs are shooed away and sometimes being hit also. These people never pause to think that these animals too have souls and do not deserve the treatment they are getting. In fact, we think dogs are the most loyal to human beings, yet we are cruel to them. The Municipal Corporation must take some initiative by making arrangements for their food and shelter. The members of society can collect some donations and provide help to these stray dogs who certainly guard our houses at night without charging us for their services.
