Ya right but fraction is never negative and rational is positive as well as negative

fraction (from Latin fractus, "broken") represents a part of a whole or, more generally, any number of equal parts. The main difference is in the definition, the fraction is a part whereas a rational number is the result of the fractionning. 1 / sqrt(2) is a fractionbut is not a rational number.
