When the British government in India brought changes in the forest laws, the life of the forest dwellers affected badly. In order to develop railways and to control the tribal groups easily, the British government took control of the forests and declared those forests as Reserved Forests for they produced timber. Therefore, the forest dwellers were forced to leave the forests; they were banned to enter the reserved forests. The new trade in India was controlled by the colonial government with the help of some Indian merchants. The new opportunity for the forest dwellers did not always provide the improved life. For instance, both males and females from the tribal communities were recruited to work in the tea plantation of Assam, they were paid very low and the working condition was very bad. Once recruited they were not allowed to return home back.
