 p^2x^2+(p^2-q^2)x-q^2=0

 p^2x^2+p^2x-q^2x-q^2=0

p^2x(x+1)-q^2(x+1)=0

(x+1)(p^2x-q^2)=0

x+1=0 so x=-1

p^2x-q^2=0

or x=q^2/p^2
