Traders, priests and pilgrims traveled far and wide from ancient times. They carried with them goods, money, values, skills, ideas, inventions, and even germs and disease. The long distance spread of disease was predominant as way back as the seventh century. By the thirteenth century intercontinental trade was well established.</font></font>
