In other words racemic mixture is the mixture of a pair of enantiomers having opposite nature of rotating light i.e. if one is dextro then other should be levo rotatory which will cancel each other as are present in equal amount and hence a racemic mixture is optically inactive.

Racemic mixture is usually a mixture in which we obtain to compounds ,one is the result of retention and other is the result of inversion .
