    On the embryo side it has villi. On the mother side it has blood spaces. Villi increase the sirface area for the passage of glucose and oxygen from placenta. Embryo also generates some waste material which is removed through placenta into mother blood.

    The embryo gets nutrition from the mother's blood through a special tissue called placenta. It is a disc which is embedded in the uterus wall.
