B'cuz in its valance shell there are 4 electrons.........and it's really hard to gain or lose 4 electrons....... so the carbon choose to share its electrons.....and form a covalent bond..

Because carbon is tetravalent.which means that it has four electrons in it's outermost shell. To make itself stable it needs to gain or lose electrons. So, carbon forms covalent bonds.
