Let x be no. of students appeared. A be set of students passed in Maths. B be set of students passed in Science. n(A) = 80x/100. n(B) = 72x/100. n(A intersection B) = 312. n(A U B) = (80x + 72x - 31200)/100 = (152x - 31200)/100. n(U) - n(A union B) = 13x/100. x - (152x - 31200)100 = 13x/100. x = (13x + 152x -31200)/100. 31200 = 165x - 100x. 65x = 31200. x = 480. Ans.
