Take cos^4x common. It becomes sec^4x which splits into sec^2x & sec^2x.sec^2x is 1+tan^2x.it becomes sec^2x(1+tan^2x)/1+tan^4x. Take tanx=t, sec^2x dx adjusts into dt. Finally it becomes 1+t^2/1+t^4.
