Esterification: 1)When ethanol reacts with carboxylic acid in presen e of acid as a catalyst a sweet smelling compound forms called ester and reaction is esterification. 2)CH3COOH+CH3CH2OH (gives in presence of acid) CH3COOCH2CH3. 3)Used in making perfumes. Saponification: 1) The reaction in which ester reacts in presence of acid or base to give back alchol and carboxylic acid is known as saponification reaction. 2)CH3COOH2CH3(gives)CH3CH2OH+CH3COONa 3)Used to manufacture soaps.

Reaction between ethenol and ethenoic acid is called esterification. Getting back of ethenol and ethenoic acid from ester called saponification.
