How chlorobenzene obtained from the Benzene? Benzene is reacted with nitrating mixture (h2so4 and hno3) to form nitrobenzene. Then nitrobenzene is reduced by use of Sn and Hcl . It reduces it to aniline. We use that aniline to carry out dizo reaction (where we react it with NaNO2 and Hcl at 0-5 degree) we get benzene diazonium chloride. Benzene diazonium chloride is reacted with HCl and Cu2Cl2 (most of the book have written it as Cucl instead of Cu2Cl2 that is wrong, but for board level I recommend you to use the wrong one ie Cucl as your papers may be checked by teachers who have their knowledge limit only till board books). So coming back to the point when we react benzene diazonium chloride with CuCl and HCl we get chlorobenzene (this particular reaction is called sandmeyer reaction)
