The oxidation state of P in PCL4 + is +5 while in PCl4− is +3 as we know that the stability of the +5 oxidation state is high and decreases as we go down the group. On the contrary stability of +3 increases from top to bottom of the group. Hence, PCl4+ is more stable and likely to exist.
