BTW NH3 is a strong ligand.

It is impossible that one of the inner d orbital and one of the outer d orbital are used as hybrid orbitals. As in +2 state of Ni only one d orbital is vacant after pairing thus it isn't possible to have dsp3d hybridization, thus no pairing occurs and we get complex with hybrid orbitals in outer d orbital thus sp3d2 hybridization is attained.
