Electric current is the flow of charged particles in a conductor. The electrons move only if there is a difference called the potential difference along the conductor. The difference of potential can be produced by a battery consisting of one or more cell.
We define electric potential difference between two points in an electric circuit carrying some current, as the work done to move a unit charge from one point to the other-
V = W/Q
Where V = potential difference between two points
W = Work done
Q = charge
SI unit is volt (V).
